Well Sophia has humans (we've seen Elezen, Hyur and Roegadyn thralls) as her worshippers, so it kinda makes sense they would imagine their Goddess to be humanoid.Again out of the triad Sophia, the only female, is also the only one that is really human looking. I know that they did it as a homage yet it would still be nice to be more consistent with the primals and not always make the females the good looking ones and the males beastly.
True, still sad that she was the only one that got a more human appearance while the males ones in the triad are beastly. I mean how big is the chance that she was the only one that got worshiped by human looking races and the other two not? Honestly in the end as a real life woman I just want more female enemies that look different than "mostly beautiful with some beastly parts". Heck the only one that comes to my mind that looks at least way more beastly is Echidna in the 24 man raid. And on top of that I want just some more handsome male enemies.Just some more mixed up stuff so that I can still be surprised in a way and not think "oh another female primal well she will probably look xx way".
Maybe I am just hoping for too much. Since I am not a general FF fan (barely played other games in the series) I dont feel a huge way when they introduce certain primals as a homage. In the end I want them to make sense in FF14 and sometimes I do wonder if the part with the homage and fanservice is not taking a bit away from the game itself. (I mean was it ever explained why the bosses look a certain way in the new 24 man raid? Because for me they just feel a bit off since they are just there.) But thats probably a post for another topic.
But the Ananta queen was angered and sad over the death of her beloved daughter. If the feelings are changing the primal then shouldnt she have looked more savage? Or acted more angry? Titan is a good example because we saw him summoned again where he was influenced by the rage of the child and thus even attacked his own believers. If such an anger and grief makes a primal so angry why was Laskhimi so calm?
Sometimes it feels like the "lore" behind the primals is a bit changing. They said that they dont have one set of appearance and that they change depending on their believer. So Titan and Ifrit makes sense. Garuda being a woman makes sense too if they still know that she was original a woman. Yet her appearance is a big change towards the other two and makes less sense. Then we have Ramuh who is one of the male primals where I am not sure why he was summoned in that way since the slyphs dont even look anyway near human. Here it feels just like "other FF Ramuhs looked that way so we will do it that way too".
Its just on one hand you will have primals that at least follow the rule of "looking like the summoners want them to" and others that just look a certain way for homages and fanservice. But that just might be me.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Maybe.
Also possible that in her grief she envisaged a world where those before her (Hyur) accepted their goddess and made the sole pursuit of their life the acquisition of beauty instead of attacking them in hatred, and that led to a merging of the two forms - Ananta and Hyur. Sudden grief does strange things to the mind.
In other words, there's a myriad of ways we can explain how the Broodmother's state of mind influenced the appearance of their goddess within the lore.
As for Ramuh, his appearance is based on legend, much like with Garuda. The Sylphs' version of Ramuh is that of a wise old sage that has helped them in the past (which, with the Garuda information we have, strongly implies the Sylph legend is based on a real person from era's past). Much like with the Vanu Vanu, who summon a sky whale because that is the form their legend takes, despite being fat bird people.
I'm also confused why you feel like Titan and Ifrit are somehow special - they look nothing like the race that summons them either.
They might not look like big versions of them but the beast tribe behind Titan is living underground and live their life with rocks and the treasure that the underground gives them. Titan being a big rock like primal makes sense in that way. Also everything on him screams protector. Like the rock that you can hide behind and that will protect you from the bad things. Ifrit looks quite reptilian thus fitting them quite good. They are fierce warriors thus his fire, horns and behavior also makes sense. Heck I do like the behavior of the female ones too. Garuda being so cruel, Sophia being about balance even if it means death and Lakshimi trying to give a good live by living in ignorance and pure bliss. I am just sad that they look so much more different then the male primals. Honestly Ramuh is the only one that looks human. I know that they might be that way because of some legends but over such a long time its kinda strange that they did not change to a more beastly version. (Sophia was caged so she gets a pass on that) I mean I dont even want them to be completely changed to something beastly like the male versions (even though that would be awesome imo) but at least some more parts that make them less human. Like giving Garuda a bird beak and maybe more feathers. (At least she is the more beastly version of them all x)) Lakshimi could easily look more like their tribe if she had way more scales, slitted eyes and maybe showing a bit of her existing tail. She would still be quite beautiful but more believable (for me at least).
But yes in the end all it comes down to is fanservice. Just the decision alone to have them be remembered that way is already fanservice since this gives them the excuse to show them that way. I just find that sad but sadly cant change much about it. (Still like their character and the music though)
