Lots and lots of lag followed by 90k errors (90002 specifcially)

I am at my wit's end with this. Every day now, for at least since 4.15 came out, I pretty much get a constant barrage of 90k errors. I'll start lagging and get the offline indicator next to my character, then anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, then boop, 90k.

As I was typing this, I was standing at the mini cactpot guy in GS, with literally no one around...then soon as I clicked on that NPC, I redlined for about 3 minutes but didn't get completely booted and 90k. The issue seems very prevalent whenever I join groups for A/S rank hunts; I'm lucky to get a kill of a single one of those without lagging out nowadays.

Nothing on my end with my PC has changed, nor with my ISP, although I did notice the tracert going from me to the Aether DC IP now goes through Atlanta > Dallas > San Jose, whereas I recall when the NA datacenters first moved, traffic from me was going Atlanta > Ashburn (VA) > Seattle > San Jose. That being said, the only time I've ever seen packet loss on dozens of tracert runs was at the penultimate hop.

Not sure what else to do at this point; I've done the normal stuff, rebooted all the things, etc. The lag is only occurring with this game; I've sunk nearly 100 hours into Diablo 3's season 12 (as a result of the issues when trying to play this game) with zero bouts of lag or disconnects.

Good Morning, and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

I can see that you have put a lot of work into getting this to work, I'd love to help but I will need some more information about your situation.

    Please provide:

    - Platform (PC, PS4, Mac)
    - Any error codes or messages you receive upon disconnect (if any)
    - Type of connection (wired or wireless)
    - Other programs running while the game is playing (if any)
    - Frequency at which disconnect occurs
    - Where you are booted to after disconnect (Desktop, Start Screen, Character Select)
    - Everything you have already tried to alleviate the problem.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the game!

    Platform: PC (non-Steam)

Error code(s): 90002 error is the only one I've seen when this occurs

    Type of connection: Wired

Other programs running: Steam, Blizzard battle.net client, Firefox...which makes me think that maybe having FF open could be a factor because I swapped to the new quantum version that came out recently. Prior to that, I used Chrome, so I'm going to swap back to Chrome just to see if that makes any difference (color me skeptical that it does)

Frequency: It's hit or miss, which makes it all the more frustrating. One common factor is if I'm in/near large groups of people in combat, such as out fighting A/S rank hunts. I've also had it drop me while in my own house when I would go to check retainers (small house, not a whole lot of furniture/stuff in there). Had a Frontline roulette put me in Secure for the first time ever 2 weeks ago, only to have the 90k error (and subsequent disconnect) 4 times in a 5 minute span.

Booted to after disconnect: Start screen

Everything I've done: Swapped network cable from my PC to my router, rebooted router + modem, directly connected my PC to the cable modem (thus bypassing the router), rebooted PC multiple times. I've had some Windows updates come through during this timespan, but the issues I've had started before those updates were installed. Updated video driver to latest version to no effect (and no surprise there, really). Only other thing I haven't done is check locally with other people I know game, but I'm the only person I know of in my town that plays this game (which is a totally different "problem", heh). Other firends that I do have playing the game (and not having these issues) are on different service providers; ideally I would find someone on same provider as I am, but haven't had any luck with that. As noted in OP, tracert that I've run dozens of times since this started have not once had any drops while the traffic was within my ISP's network.

Update: So yeah...about that tidbit I mentioned regarding reverting my default browser back to Chrome from Firefox Quantum. Either it's the weirdest coincidence ever, or it legitimately resolved the issue. Been online in the game for 2 hours now with no issues at all. During all the mess I was enduring, I would've had at least 3-4 disconnects in that time frame at a minimum.

    Beats all I've ever seen.

    That's great to hear!

Generally, it is recommended that you do not run additional programs in the background (even if it is only a web browser) as it can have some interference with the game. If you run into any further issues, please feel free to create a new thread.

This thread will be moved to "Closed Concerns" upon resolution of the issue. We hope you continue to enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
