Tanks not holding aggro in dungeons? The new norm?

Just curious, is only using AoE enmity skills once per pack of mobs the norm now? Most of the tanks I see lately can't even hold aggro on single packs. Like most of the PLDs I see Flash once and then concentrate on a single mob after they're done pulling, while the rest of the group expects to be able to AoE everything. Its quite stressful as a healer to have to deal with the mobs playing ping-pong constantly. Its also making runs very slow since DPS is getting capped due to risk of death from pulling aggro.

I sure hope this isn't the new norm.

This definitely is NOT the norm of how to deal with packs of mobs.

WAR's overpower is the best way for consistent AOE damage and it comes with bonus Enmity. DRK has less damage before Lv56 with Unleash, but jumps into the same bit as WAR with Abyssal Drain. Paladins, much to my disgust, are indeed the root of the issue - out-of-the-running-mill Paladins often believe that no damage = bad and cannot possibly cause enough Enmity alone and therefore use enmity combos, Circle of Scorn and Total Eclipse primarily on trash packs.

If anything, a bad wave of Paladin players, but definitely not the norm. 2-3x Flash into FoF + Total Eclipse spam is the way to go. If using Flash in Shield Oath 3-4x, you can technically go into Sword Oath after that (with a Rampart at least...) and do your AOE combo in the DPS stance.

Yup. You get a couple of bad runs and decide it’s an epidemic.

Don’t like it? Roll tank and do it yourself.

as main tank and casual healer,I personally don't mind where aggro goes, everyone has a hp bar, tank it yourself if you have it....role skills to control aggro exist, use them....

This kind of thing has happened since the release of ARR. It's not like we have all huddled together and signed a blood pact to screw over the entire games population from now on by not keeping aggro.

Sometimes you just get bad tanks, just like there are bad healers and bad DPS. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The goal of a Tank is keeping aggro.

Btw, MNK and SAM haven't a spell to reduce enmity, and if you don't do regularly your aoe aggro abilities, you'll lost aggro. Then it's your fault. Dps are here to dps, if they have to limitate themselves because you don't want to do your job, so you're bad.

    Sorry to tell you that.

Er, I'm pretty sure MNK does indeed have one emnity related ability.

EDIT: Correction, they can take 'diversion' - cross-class, nothing inherent.

Diversion is an enmity queller; it won't dump aggro. And that's the only option both MNK and SAM have when most other DPS jobs have more than one option--BRD/MCH have Refresh/Tactician, SMN/BLM/RDM have Diversion/Lucid Dreaming, NIN has Diversion plus Shadewalker to give their aggro to the tank, DRG have Diversion/Elusive Jump every 30 seconds to dump aggro. So without a few aggro combos rotated in, SAM/MNK can easily creep up and rip from an unsuspecting tank even while popping Diversion.

Honestly, Invigorate should also function as an aggro dump in addition to TP restoration. I hope this is added in 4.2.

I didn't say it could dump aggro - I simply said one emnity related ability (non-inherent). Just spoke out of muscle memory seeing as even my L61 MNK has been stealing aggro from tanks while using above mentioned ability. May as well have tanked the dungeon myself, but then again she's in shire gear - I suspect these late levellers didn't get that luxury. Either that or they just didn't know how to aggro appropriately (though I will politely assume it was on my end, everybody wins).
