    ALT+TAB woes

    Hi there,

First off: GTX 1080, updated driver to the Nov 30th update today (following issue is ongoing with this and previous driver)

When I alt tab and return tot he game, my fps are choppy. Sometimes this clears up after a few seconds, sometimes I have to change the screen mode to fullscreen -or if I'm already in full screen then change it to fullscreen windowed.

Second issue, sometimes when alt tabbing and returning to the game the screen flickers maybe 5-10 times whenever I click the FF14 window, but it won't display as the main screen and I can't control my character - as if i'm still alt tabbed. If I try to click the FF14 window again it'll flicker again and so on. Only way to fix that is control alt delete.

Same gfx card here, but I only seem to get the issue when the game seemingly memory cache dumps, usually after only some 15 minutes or more alt-tabbed out, and corrects itself within 10 seconds or so, or a second alt-tab (hold) and click to another game and then alt-tab (hold) and click back. I'll let you know if I notice a solution for those cases, and hopefully it will be applicable to yours as well.

Hello! Thank you for playing Final Fantasy XIV!

I apologize that you are experiencing this! I would suggest lowering the graphics settings in-game, as the intense graphics in dungeons can cause the issue. We also suggest that the graphics card are using the latest drivers for the card. Should you be using Direct X 11 and experiencing the issue, we would suggest reverting back to Direct X 9 to see if the issue still persists.

Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Please let us know if your issue gets resolved and what resolved it, So we can further assist other players.

    My rig:
    i7-4770k
    2x 1080 ti
    32gb ram

The game ran beautifully at 4k maxed out until yesterday when I downloaded the Fall Creators Update for Win 10. Now I too am getting the slowdown sometimes. However my fix is to simply alt tab. I run in borderless windowed on a 4k monitor so alt tabbing is a simple fix for the slowdown. Whenever it happens I just alt tab to my browser then alt tab back to the game and the slowdown is gone. I haven't played any other games to see if this issue is unique to FFXIV or not. However, just doing a search for "creators update gaming performance" tells me it is probably not just FFXIV.

Had a similar issue, and it seemed to be caused by the game losing focus from Windows 10. Gamepad would stop working, and framerate would drop to 15 fps and stay there, even when alt-tabbing back into the game.

I unchecked the options in system config that is something along the lines of "limit frame rate when not active window" and it fixed the issue. There's also a setting in there to keep registering the gamepad when not active window.

Just checked, that was already unchecked so no luck there I found that playing in Fullscreen solved the issue. Not ideal as I like to multitask but hopefully there will be a fix eventually.

    Shurrikhan & zipper,

I would like to suggest switching your direct x 11 off. Making sure that all background applications are closed and all overlays (for example the Geforce experience) are disabled. Make sure you drivers are updated. You may also want to try reinstalling the game itself.

uninstall Final Fantasy XIV from your computer. Make sure to delete any remaining FFXIV files from your computer, including any potential files in your ‘Documents’ folder. Then reinstall the game from scratch. If you need a digital version of this, it can be found here: http://gdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/ins...XIV_ONLINE.dmg. Any updates or expansions will be downloaded to your computer once logged into the appropriate account.

Please let us know if this works for you, or even if it does not so we can look further into the issue.

Thank you for playing Final Fantasy XIV!
