Contextual jump where if you move forward and there's a spot where jumping makes sense is perfectly reasonable and would loads of depth to in-game possibilities. In Zelda, you could jump anywhere at a certain height above you, and control the direction and angle you jump off of things. This is as much as is necessary. I can think of loads of scenarios where this would be practical and effective, from a development/programming viewpoint and for adding depth and creativity to content in the game.

Whereas, being able to have control over whether you're standing up jumping at a fixed height and the same animation every time would add nothing to the value of FFXIV that hasn't already been done in other games, in which that context of jumping is both appropriate and necessary. As the game stands now, free jumping is asthetic. Imaginary boundaries and the layout of the world of Eorzea, do not require nor advocate the necessity for this.
Yes, as the game stands now it would mostly be aesthetic, but the world in 2.0 will be designed with jumping in mind and jump isn't coming before then so I really don't see what all the fuss is about. In Zelda I wished I could freely jump, having that contextual jump doesn't bring depth at all imo, all you're doing is pressing forward towards something and he jumps on his own.

For 2.0 is one issue, as long as people are keeping that in mind.

As for Zelda's game mechanics, I AM a fanboy and damn proud of it. Owned the Legend of Zelda gold cartridge for NES back in '96, and have been in love with the series ever since. Ocarina of Time's Contextual Jump was one of many features that set the standard for gaming for years to come. It being heralded as one of the greatest games ever made. I've played many zelda's hundreds of times and would feel strongly that free jumping in that game would make every puzzle/ challenge/part of that game lose all meaning. From a dev/programming standpoint and a mechanical standpoint. And yes, the "lol" immersion of it. So I guess we agree to disagree.

We're currently looking into the possibility of giving mounts the ability to jump once we implement the jump feature. Once we have more information to share, we'll be sure to pass it on.

Thanks for the reply. I agree that mounts should be able to jump, simply because if it can't jump, then it won't be able to go everywhere that you could without a mount. (i.e jumping over a fence, up a small cliff, etc)

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

In before anyone assumes this confirms mounts jumping...oh wait.

people need to stop jumping to conclusions whenever a rep respondes with "We are looking into it" somehow I swear 90% of the people here assume that means "Yes"
