I just found it odd that would have been mentioned, because Necromancer is rooted in Final Fantasy history lol. Garland in FFI/IX was a glorified Necromancer for example.

why does ffxi/ffxiv need to be online? since when are final fantasy online games? well since ffxi of course.
and now if they add platforming to ffxiv, final fantasy games can be platforming too since ffxiv.

stop living in the past and try to shakle ffxiv down with your backwarded views. we must be progressive now and go back to the future.

Ah well. Like I said before, it's being added, there's no point in saying that it breaks immersion anymore lol.

If you are against it, get used to it.
If you want it, embrace it infront of the immersive ones to no extent xD.

Because they wanted to allow people to play a Final Fantasy together for once? Since "playing FF together" before was taking turns. (Pretty sure they explained why they made XI online, and part of it was because it's what they always wanted to do with the series but was held by back technology at the time.)

    stop living in the past
I'm sorry, turning every MMORPG into a platformer is the future? How does that make any sense?

I think the appropriate use of "living in the past" would be for those who still play MUDs and want MMOs to revert back to the glory days.

I personally dont see why any on needs a jump button or command. Now say we do get it players will use it for a short time and than not bother with it. Now if players want this feature because other games have it well I ask you this if other players decide to jump off a bridge would you follow them?
Now again if they do add this feature players most likely will than complain " Oh where is the content, what no endgame?" Also you know this will happen you can bet on it, well guess what now seeing as we have jump every damn quest/mission may require you to jump. Oh joy thats all I need, (NOT). As of right now FFXIV has major issues and this ability to jump is the least of SE worries. Even when 2.0 is finally release there is no guarentee that FFXIV will stand a chance. It could very well be shot down by the players. I can see maybe in the future but adding jump now or at the launch of 2.0 is something that needs to be put on hold, until SE gets their act together and actually fix the game as well as adding content and endgame stuff. Until that time and until the players say wow this is a really great game, things like jump need to be put off, and SE needs to worry about again FIXING the game 1st. This is a minor feature that can wait.

This is the type of player I'm talking about. Thinks the whole team stops dead in their tracks just to focus on jump. And what do you think they've BEEN doing for the past year? Dwiddling their thumbs on if they should apply jump or not?

-People will jump around, it will bug the frick out of me and most people I know.
Blacklist and ignore them, and it will stop. A couple people being retards does not justify not having a feature. I've said this dozens of times.

-This isn't a platformer, its an mmorpg, ya know, a simulator, kinda like for real lifeish
No one said this is a platformer, but it's most certainly NOT a "simulator", it's a fantasy land. And a game doesn't need to be a platformer for jumping to have relevance. Look at any 3D zelda game. You can jump in those and they aren't "platformer" games. (Zelda doesn't just have auto jumping, in most of the games you can jump backwards while the camera is locked by pushing a button, and there are places out of combat where you're expected to know to be able to do this). The Elder Scrolls games have jumping and those are some of the most popular RPGs in the US. They have giant, near-MMO sized worlds too.
-Again, the world we live on RIGHT NOW, ya know earth, is suuuuper beautiful, you never have to jump.
How beautiful the world is is irrelevant to the topic of jumping. Being able to jump does not make the world less beautiful on the whole. And there almost certainly be times in your real life when the skill of being able to jump will come in handy. You cannot tell me you've never once jumped in your life.

-No, no you can't, not in an "turn" base mmo, in an action mmo, yes maybe, but this is not an action mmo.
I don't know which game you're playing, but FFXIV is not turn based. It is action based.

The ability to change your direction from front/back to left and right is already 3-dimensional movement, you don't need to jump in order to have 3D movement, utilizing a joystick or mouse for movement alone is 3-dimensional movement.
That's two-dimensional movement, not three. Since you're wholly glued to the ground you stand on (as you can't fall down any holes or any place where you arent at least sort of touching ground) three-dimensional movement is effectually non-existent. Elevators don't even count because those only operate in cutscenes.

Yeah let's just shit on half the playerbase with bad connections and continue to add positional and reaction based content that kills them all the time.
Movement, including jumping, is generally handled client-side. Thus pressing jump before something appears that you would need to jump over means you would avoid it. Movement is about the only thing that the server trusts the player with, because if the server had to verify movement, your movement input would lag horribly and your character would be very unresponsive when you pushed movement keys.

As far as the CURRENT state of the game, perhaps the biggest use for jumping would be at the ifrit battle. He throws down one of his lava splats, but you're not going to be able to run out before you get hit by it. Oh wait, you have jumping ability! A well timed jump just before it hits and you can escape the damage zone!

just because you are adding jump and being able to travel by jumping from "platforms" to platforms doesnt necacarrly mean it is a platform game, but what it does is it adds depth and a different kind of exploring. nothing negative about it at all. why are humans even against this?

Humans are allowed to like or dislike things that's what makes you human.. at least in most nations in the world humans are free to act human and not conform to what is "supposed" to be the "right answer."
