Seriously if we keep getting mob mounts (specificly ones from FFXI) imma name them after FFXI NMs, I could end up calling a drake Fafnir or Niddhog even though there a lil different.

Need a scorpion mount for me to call Serket, I beat him that many times to get my damn ring he should do everything I say.

A Goobue mount? I'm sorry but I think it's a bit silly. Someone much earlier in the thread mentioned they are all for new mounts so long as they are not ridiculously stupid... I'd say running around on a giant modified Bulbasaur is pretty dumb. I'm all for having new mounts, which is an opinion I didn't always have. I used to be a bit of a purist and went around saying that we should only have chocobos of varying colours and breeds. But after seeing so many other peoples pleads for more mount options I'd like to see those people happy.

Just the thought of people warping to Camp Dragonhead and then each calling a Goobue out of nowhere is quite traumatizing to me. I'm really unsure why the team feels the need to emulate other MMO's and include weird mounts. I'd say that giving us an abundance of Chocobo styles and designs to ride on, would make the game stand out even more that it would by giving us loads of different animals to ride.

If you actually look at the Chocobos throughout each FF game, they have clear distinct design differences. Heck, maybe they could exaggerate those differences to make even more of a difference. Longer ear feathers, Wide beaks, Bigger wings, longer tail feathers, fat chocobo, etc. These things could even have varying colors. A yellow chocobo with long black tailfeathers would be cool in my opinion.

Anyway, if the majority want more mounts then fine give us more mounts. I hope they just keep it sensible and for me, the Goobue is a joke.

WoW was a lowest-common-denominator game. The success of WoW could be easily be likened to the success of 'Two and a Half Men' or 'CSI Miami'.

In my opinion, Fan-service mounts are a fast track to creating that kind of game.

It's also lead to the death of many MMO's that have tried to emulate WoW, hell I allready hear grumblings of players getting bored of Star Wars that just came out because aside from the story it's just a meh WoW clone.

In my opinion the only thing (or one of the very, very few things) any new/existing MMO should strive to replicate from WoW is it's snappy, responsive, and robust UI along with the user customization abilities. Everything else I think MMO developers need to focus on their own "thing". In fact, any game developer in general (I think at least) should be focusing on making a "good game" first instead of a "what's the flavor of the week and will sell well" game.

Will FFXIV become a "good" game by virute of adding Gobbue mounts? Doubtful. However who knows - some people liked Sara Palin *shrugs*

Does comparing a well-known icon in the FF series that has often been used as a mode of transportation (aka, chocobos) to that of another maybe not-so-well-known yet present in other (very few?) FF series and has not ever been used as a mode of transportation (aka, Gobbues) seem somewhat... odd? Sure does!

Will having Gobbue mounts make the game "not good" by virtue of itself? Doubtful. But... it's understandable that some players might not be able to help but think that the dev team is just trying to match the "flavor of the week" of other MMOs because "duh... they makes lotz 'o moneyz duh... so we should dooz that too, duh..." instead of:

Hey maybe we should think about giving players some other 'mount' options for those who might like something other than a yellow chocobo. Let's brainstorm and see what we can come up with that would a) fit within the FF lore and b) would be well-received by the player community.

Yeah... I'm seeing the former rather than the latter with Gobbue mounts. Really leaves a "meh!~" flavor for this week. (pun intended!)
