Some reduction of skills so it all fits on 2 hotbars at most would be nice.
But I don't think it needs to be reduced like PVP to the point that it all fits on one bar.

You can already fit virtually every job on 2 hotbars. (maybe 2 and a half with scholar/smn pet commands) and even then you hardly ever have to press R1 to actively change sets.
in my case my scholar swaps sets maybe once a minute. to drop shadow flare, hit deployment tactics, or put chain stratagem up. out side of those the only time I ever swap sets is when people have died and need reprotecting or if I need lucid dreaming or ruin 2s insta cast.
pld blm sam nin brd all the same. very very rarely have to change sets on any of them. and all. you can fit every job on 2 hotbars plus the expanded one.
anyone who needs more space than that or is swapping sets more than once or twice a minute must have some really illogical layouts going on
I really don't see the need for it, and I'm on PS4. I have my Cross Hotbar set up perfectly to rotate through the skills using no more than 32 slots, and even then it's mostly less than 32 buttons to us(and I don't cycle through the bars, holding L2+R2 will allow me to use the left side of set 3, without switching to it permanently; and same with R2+L2, it will show right side of set 3). It's very rare that I end up needing more buttons than what that provides me. And it's usually just for Sprint that have a different skill set for(has my teleport skills there as well as a few mounts/minions).

Terrible idea.
Would make the game stale and boring and it wouldn't work as an optional thing because I don't think they would be able to balance it. In my opinion one of the modes would most definitely have an unfair advantage over the other and will cause balance problems between certain jobs.

I support the idea. As a controller user if I can fit everything onto one hot bar the better. I fail to see how a 1 2 3 combo is more exciting than pressing the same button 3 times. I find the button bloat more stressful than challenging. Not like you're ever going to use that combo out of order unless the combo breaks off into multiple combos such as tanks. But in the case of Dragoon, I'm all for both combos being attached to a single button.Terrible idea.

Still better than 3.X's caster Bard. I doubt SE would change Bard that dramatically and if they did I'm sure they would make other adjustments to compensate for the changes including potency of attacks and cool down timers. Besides, Bard doesn't have the button bloat problem anyway so that's one of the few jobs that would get hit. They're asking for combos to be condensed, not to implement the entire PvP structure over to PvE. In addition, MCH is more likely to get an awkward change than Bard would. Since you can use their 1, 2, 3 combo out of order with ammo and hold the procs.

Never. Dumbing down PVE will just lead to thousands of players leaving the game. I for one would end my sub over this idea alone.

Why are people so against this idea, it's not like we are forcing it on people. it could be added as an optional thing. Those that want to use it are happy, and those that don't simply don't.
I love the idea cause it would clear space in my screen, also it would be great for when I play on my ps4 my hotbar options are more limited.

Skill bloat is not a problem. PvP is poorly designed right now. Sorry, big pass on this.
Glad to see some positive posts too.
As for having enough buttons 'now' what will happen next expansion?
When they add even more skills?
Then suddenly it's no longer enough.

Hopefully never. If I wanted to watch a game play itself I'd go watch someone on twitch.
