    PGL and Ifrit

    Last night I did a few Ifrit runs as PGL (only capped class at the moment for me) and it was fine up to the point when he starts with the AOE.

    I was rarely caught by Eruption, but was being slowly killed by his frequent AOEs.

    Now, what do you think should be the role of a PGL during an Ifrit fight?

    This is how I do:

    1 - Wait for GLA to get enough hate;
    2 - Position behind Ifrit and start attacking;
    3 - Stay by tank when he Jumps;
    4 - Get back behind him;
    5 - when Eruption arrives I move far from tank;

    Problem is at a certain point I spend more time healing my-self rather then attacking him.

    Suggestions welcome,

    Guevara.

    Move in and out, time your move in with when his Sear ability goes off, do 1 AA or 1 WS and go out again, it can be hard to time it correctly but if you achieve that, you rarely take any dmg at all. ^^

    As was stated, you can weave in and out. Help out your healers by mitigating damage by keeping Stoneskin on yourself whenever you can, using Second Wind whenever it's ready, and using Bloodbath with your heavy damage WS's. Hell if anything, you can just Invigorate then stand out of Sear range in passive to get some HP back while your TP ticks up, too, or save Invigorate for whenever he jumps.

    I've had many Lancers that would AA from within Sear range and fights still turned out OK, and PGL's Second Wind is much better so you shouldn't be as much of a burden as you would expect when your group gets enough experience with the fight. MP for your healers really shouldn't be an issue unless Ifrit decides to constantly spam Eruptions on them or they haven't had much experience with the fight.

    We did it with 4 thm 3 con and a pug tank. Once the pug got the hang of tanking him he went down super fast. thm burns with a gld tank take maybe 8-9 mins but with a pug tank u can take that down to 7-8 mins

    dont underestimate the power of a pug tank too if u try it again ^^

    Is that Evasion tanking? Would you mind providing your PGL's gear setup? I'm ever so curious about trying this out myself..

    I'm not sure what the pugs gear was (I was on thm) but he was eva tanking. It happened as an accident at first when we had a gla and a pug both in the pt and the gla went down, the pug stepped in and finished the second half successfully so we decided to try it with pug from the beginning, and it worked. I can see if I can find out tho what gear he was wearing and if he was using any materia.

    Pug does take a few more heals than gla of course but also gets hit less, the damage output is higher so Ifrit will go down faster which can kindda make up for it. I'm convinced we could kill him before he can hellfire but we havent tested it yet. I'm thinking 5 thm, 2 con and a pug tank could do it if everyone was on their game. Closest we have come is getting him to around 30% health.

    No matter what +evasion you have on gear or how much you pop Featherfoot, you can't evade Ifrit's attacks except on 1st 15% of ifrit and during nails phase.
    And is impossible to kill Ifrit before hellfire pops, during nails phase if you get him to 10-15% hp he does hellfire earlier. ^^;

    this is a good point you have here, i would suggest that they make this AoE a cone effect, PGL has to be right beside ifrit so is a natural thing ending dead or healing more than attacking, i think they should change that, more like the ogre with the elbow drop, you dont have any problem being near him but you have to evade a few time his ws.

    i hope the dev team takes this type of suggestion to improve the battles for all classes.

    Ifrit's AoE swipe (as distinct from his single-target claw attack during phase 1 and hellfire) is evade-able (or at least blockable) as of 1.20.
