Honestly you could think of it as a extended mini storage rental.

In the real world - your stuff would get auction'd off.

At least you can still get it back in FFXIV. Guess it comes down to how much it's worth to you. Is it nice? Prob. not...but planning ahead can avoid it. I can see why SE does what it does. not that I'm all that thrilled about it mind you..but it does make sense.

They honestly should make it so you can withdraw the items but cannot put any back in. Or it could all go to a lost and found salvager - you pick up your items like you would pick up forgotten money from the government. That’s how it is done here in the US.

If you wait until there's only a week left on your sub, you get the items very cheap. Changing your sub model isn't necessary but I'd now recommend it to everyone after struggling with disconnect issues for a month. The entry sub model is the same price per month as the standard 180 days model, and works for everyone with just one character per world.

ESO has extra slots of storage when you sub. When the sub lapses, you can take our your stuff, but not put any in until its below the new lower limit.

SE ought to do the same thing here. It'd be simple to do, allow you to summon ALL retainers, but you can only withdraw, not entrust, not list, not change appearances, not send out on ventures, ect. Thow customers a bone and they'll be more likely to use services in the future.

What makes you all think the OP will buy anything now? Not only are they losing the 30 pounds they tried to squeeze him for. But if he decides not to buy anymore things. They could have potentially lost 30-100 or more. Let him spend the amount for the 1 month as he wanted, get a few pounds, and keep him happy.

Its not asking much. And it'd be the honorable thing to do.

I just want to make mention that I'm not trying to scam SE or whatever. I have a legacy sub anyway so I didn't take the 180 day sub for additional character slots. I foolishly expected retainers to be on a separate system to the sub and just wanted to make a point of this for anyone else that might make the same mistake.

I've returned on a casual basis so don't need the additional retainers and just expected I could activate them for one month to clear and delete them. I feel after paying for the expansion and 6 months of sub that this isn't a big ask.
