Hello! Thank you for playing Final Fantasy XIV!
We apologize for any inconvenience you may be experiencing. The crashing of Direct X may be caused by a variety of issue. We would suggest lowering the graphic settings in game, as the intense graphics in dungeons can cause the crashing. We also suggest that the graphics card are using the latest drivers for the card. Should you be using Direct X 11 and experiencing the issue, we would suggest reverting back to Direct X 9 to see if the issue still persists.
Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Please let us know if your issue gets resolved and what resolved it, So we can further assist other players.
You missed my point, I'm not crashing in-game or having low FPS, I'm not able to even log in-game if DirectX11 option is checked!
This happened after Windows10 Update on 23rd November, before I was playing just fine with DirectX11 on and details on High.
I have tried everything to fix this, and nothing works, to be able to play I have to un-check DX11 and play with DX9 (which, again, it's NOT a solution) or revert Windows10 Update back, which is something I totally won't do, I'm not gonna keep my OS outdated for one game.
Again, this has been happening to me only with FFXIV, every other game I have on my PC which uses DX11 run just fine with high/ultra settings, only FFXIV broke.
I tried:
- Reinstalling GPU drivers (clean install), from previous version to the latest version -> it didn't work;
- Checking if my DirectX are broken or corrupted -> they are not;
- Reinstalling FFXIV client -> it didn't work;
- Reverting back Windows10 Update and then install again -> it didn't work;
Again, playing with DX9 is not a solution, I have been able to play with DX11 just fine till that update, now the game doesn't even start if DX11 is ON, every other game I have works fine!

I have browsed around this issue, I know its happened often in the past and the only other things that seem to cause it are in game overlays (i.e. Game Mode which you said you didnt have on) or overclocked cards (or bad updates/drivers). All of which seems silly, but thats FFXIV for you.
I installed that same update but can still play (Max settings) but I don't OC or use in game overlays (aside from Nvidia's on occasion)
Windows and FFXIV just never plays nice.... I'm sorry, I wish I could help more![]()

No worries, every help is much apprecciated!
Sadly I have tried those solutions but with no luck, my Game Mode in W10 is disabled already and my GPU card isn't OC'ed (neither by me or factory), about overlay I got none, I stayed away from Steam client exactly because of that, and I have disabled my Nvidia GeForce Experience Overlay, nothing works...
I don't really understand what troubles FFXIV client, I could play just fine before the W10 update and now, boom, no DX11 for me, while every other games run just fine... I wish I could check some Crash Log atleast but I didn't find any in FFXIV client files, and the Launcher Crash isn't reported in W10 Events Log either... I don't know what to do.![]()

I am very sorry you are still experiencing this issue. Have you tried running the launcher in Administrator mode or Compatibility mode? You also can try reverting back to an older graphics card driver, not just reinstalling them.
I hope this can help! Thank you for playing Final Fantasy XIV!
Yes, I have tried running the game in Administrator mode and Compatibility Mode with Windows7, sadly it didn't work... about the GPU drivers, that was one if the first things that I tried, I used the older version before trying the latest ones but it doesn't fix the issue... the only thing that fixed it was reverting Windows10 Update (which, again, it's not a real solution) right now I'm playing the game in DX9 mode to avoid losing my game time, but the difference is quite noticeable since I've been playing with DX11 before(loading screens are also longer, while before they were almost non-existant, this is what is bothering me the most actually)

Throw your computer out the window....no....wait...don't do that....maybe a hammer.... >.>
I think just looking at the client troubles the client. Can always hope for a new windows update to replace the old one perhaps (they should be due for December updates soon I believe). but those Direct X errors just have zero information to them... The fact its only affecting your FFXIV game makes you think its just a SE problem, but at the same time, Windows has broken Direct X in the past too... so... maybe that hammer is looking like an option... :/

I am currently receiving a fatal exception for DirectX. I did look at the other thread where the person was having an issue with Win10/DirectX 11.
I checked the game and it says I have DirectX 11, however, I don't recall ever installing that.
I have a downloaded version from SE so no Stream for me. I do not have the DirectX 11 running, that option is greyed out so I cannot even slide it on. I almost positive I am or was running DirectX 9.
I do not know if I have game mode on or not (not sure how to check that).
I am currently in the process of doing a system restore, however, like the previous person stated its not a long-term solution as when the next update comes I am going to be back to the same issue.
I think the only thing that was updated was my Nvidia drivers. if I can trust the scan, but this restore is taking an awfully long time to just roll back 3 video drivers.
So what can I do to permanently fix this issue since I am running DirectX9.
Thank You
Good Morning, and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
When did you start having this issue? Is it a recent development?
When you first log into the game it will say the direct x version in the green 'Play' button (either 9 or 11). If you cannot change the Directx mode in the config on the launcher, then something is interfering with the Directx on your computer or it is not installed correctly. DirectX 11 comes with Windows 8 so make sure your Operating System is completely up to date.
Also make sure your Graphics card drivers are updated to the latest version (alternatively, if you feel the graphics driver update caused the issue, you can try to install an older, more stable version). Also make sure that any program that provides and overlay is also disabled. For example, if you have an Nvidia card, the drivers may suggest installing Geforce Experience. As this may interfere with the game, we suggest leaving this disabled or uninstalled. Also, try disabling or closing all background applications/programs (this can be done from the Task Manager. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to bring up the Task Manager in Windows 8).
You can try a complete reinstall of the game as well. Make sure to delete any remaining FFXIV files from your computer, including any potential files in your ‘Documents’ folder. Then reinstall the game from scratch. If you need a digital version of this, it can be found here: http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/na/. Any updates or expansions will be downloaded to your computer once logged into the appropriate account.
A system restore may not be necessary for something like this, however if you have already done it, let us know if it solves your issue.
We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
