That's what I was referring to; there's technically no need for a secondary password check after login because we are prohibited from sharing our accounts. As someone else already suggested; if you happen to have a mischievous co-inhabitant, it would be best to lock the computer (assuming password protected windows/ios login) or logging out entirely if you need to step away.

That's definitely a best practice on the side of the consumer...

But it wouldn't hurt for SE to implement a password layer. I doubt it would be a high priority addition, and the number of players it would impact isn't likely to be all that high, but there's no compelling reason to say SE shouldn't consider doing it.

There is a password layer. Account login. There's also a secondary layer in the token. I mean, if you step away and they need a password to delete the character, but not use it, they can just throw away everything you have. would amount to close to the same thing.

The character delete function is fine the way it is. As many have stated in this thread, you have to be signed in to delete a character. It's against TOS to share your account info with anyone and if you were hacked (kinda hard if you have a token) you can probably get it back by calling customer support.

It would hurt some of the players. I have enough passwords to remember, needing another just cause some people are too lazy to protect their own hard work through a simple mean would be a pain. And if you say that it could be the same as the login one, then there's a technical reason why it COULD hurt Square Enix AND players. They use different physical servers for login and characters. By making a password requirement that is the same for login and character deletion, you basically say that you want your password to be shared between their servers. And I'd say that the login servers have much stricter security having more sensitive data than the normal datacenters. They would need to up their data centers security unnecessarily, and the risk of password leaking out is still higher.

So yeah, stick to doing the simple thing. If someone can get to your computer while you are away, don't leave without making sure they can't use it to delete the character. Or deal with the possible consequences, of course.

Typing the name is enough, you cannot delete a character by mistake.

Just don't delete characters when you're under an high fever or the times you cannot call left from right or up from down, or when everything around you is fuzzy and blurry, and you're safe from errors.

By entering your character name you're ensuring you are deleting the correct character. If you didn't want to delete it what are you doing?

If you want to look at another mmo, yes some require a pin entry or some such. Others like WoW just require you to type "delete". They did this since the beginning and only in the last couple years enabled an undelete function for characters allowing restoration outside GM intervention. Really that's all you need if you make a mistake, though if you're typing out the name of the character you want deleted how you could get the wrong one by mistake is truly special.
