i feel like deleting character should take more than just entering character name

in most other mmo i played, deleting a character involves typing the character name (like ff14 does now) but also either entering password, a seprate PIN, or email address.

its crazy how in ff14 all it takes is character name thats clearly on display on the screen already especially since deleting one character here is the equivalent to pretty much deleting 10 or more characters in other MMO

There is already a seperate PIN as an option, the security token.
If you registered it, then whoever want to delete your character have to know and use it before even come to the character selection screen.

Exactly whoever wants to delete your character would have to know your password before deleting them just to login. At if you have the security token, they would also have to have your phone.

Other MMOs, especially F2P ones, give you maybe 2 total character slots and make you wait 24 hours+ to delete one. So if you took a break from it, decided to come back, delete old character, congrats, you can no longer create a new character for 24 hours.

Im just saying I LOVE how FFxiv handles character deletion and dont think it needs any more barriers for deletion.

This is a paid MMO, its not F2P. having more than two character slots and being able to delete your character and make a new one without waiting for an entire day is not a benefit, it is baseline expectation and id almost go as far to say a requirement.

That being said, i dont have any issue with the deletion system either. If you had the unfortunate circumstance to have left your character logged on while you go to the bathroom and your asshole little brother came in and saw it fit to delete your character (or some such scenario) then i am sorry, but otherwise yah, anyone else would need to know your password to get on your account anyway

I have no issue with the deletion system. If this thread is created from a security standpoint, then you should take issue with the login password system.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

Adding a password requirement for character deletion wouldn't be a bad idea.

Interesting side note - the two main subscription only MMOs have incredibly simple character deletion requirements (the name here, in the other you just have to type DELETE in a box). It is kind of odd when you think about it (not the lack of a timer, but the lack of any other layer of intentionality when it comes to deleting a character).

I imagine the current system of only protecting your characters from outside deletion through the account login, to SE, is a deterrent to sharing your account with someone. Particularly for dubious reasons to share the account if trust is an issue.

The prevention system like typing your characters name is there not to prevent deletion, but to prevent ACCIDENTAL deletion. It takes more time than "Do you want to delete X? Yes/No", hence you're likely to read that it is deletion function that you popped up.

If you want a character deleted, you want it deleted. There is no reason why there should be any other part to it. Any security layer added on top is technically unnecessary, because if another person have the ability to delete your character, either they would have the ability to do it with that extra layer (hacking the account and its data directly from servers) or it's entirely your fault (like letting someone else play your characters). Aka...the password for logging in is the anti-deletion password. No one besides you at any point should have access to your account, so if you share it, your problem.

I think that's a non-issue. I believe FFXIV doesn't allow for account sharing outside a minor child who's parent pays for the account.

We're talking a bannable offense here if you let someone else play on your account.
