"Plucking the Heartstrings" Performance Actions Unlock Quest

So, if a dev could answer some questions I have, that'd be great.
    • Provided we can guarantee no one is recording, can we play whatever we want?
    • Regardless of whether there's a recording, can we play music from other FINAL FANTASY games?
    • Regardless of whether there's a recording, can we play music from other games by Square Enix, such as Nier: Automata?
To be honest, the in-game notice wasn't very clear.

Please do tell, from what a community manager said about the patch before its launch that they would like us too not make 3rd party music and upload them, and that it is fine too use it for personal use if you are not recording can players get banned for simply playing the music in public?

Dont quote me on this.....but my take is - you can do whatever you want so long as you don't record don't publish don't stream.

The rest is murky as hell however. But better to play it safe.

Honestly they are likely to yank the thing...people are being stupid about it.

This is probably the best advice.

People play music in public all the time, anyone ever get sued for playing other people's music in clubs or cafes?
What would be the point performing if no one listens to it? They might as well report Radio or TV shows too.

Wow...you really just did say that....lets assume for the moment you are totally in the dark.

The people who play on the street in public generally have a license or a permit (ask local law enforcement :P ) - and those who don't... CAN be called out on it for violation of copyright or any number of things. Do they? That depends on the area....your impression of people doing as they please is an illusion at best.
The radio/TV shows HAVE a license to play that music..they pay for the right - otherwise you'd hear nothing but public domain. It's why you find things on Amazon prime Video vs Netflix..its a major market racket. Some have product A but not product B...product B is available on the opposition side but not Product A. Its all about money.

SE wants to avoid the mess..but as I've said before - people are going to do stupid things and it will likely get yanked...or people will get banned. Beyond that - its not like we can stop them anyway...but that doesn't make it legal or right in the eyes of SE.

please..educate your self before you start saying things like that.

Anyone can pick up any song from youtube videos without ever playing the game, like from game trailer or guides (and you know tons of that on youtube). For me personally, I do record for learning notes, and this is something I share only with friends not public domain. It's not possible to learn the song without recording or replaying from something. That also implies hosting it somewhere accessible to me and my friends.

I didn't start this thread to start a debate. The fact is Square Enix makes players agree to terms when doing this quest, and my questions (which I thought were yes/no questions) were asked to help clarify what those terms were. I'm sure if you recorded yourself playing Megalovania and put it on YouTube, you'd be hammered hard for it for exactly the reasons NephthysVasudan mentioned regarding licensing. The bottom line is we need a dev here to answer those questions, as well as Pa Lin'guine's apparently.

Just because they can do something..doesn't mean its permissible. You seem to think "just because some joe can do _____" makes it right..it doesn't.
As i've said before...it wont stop people from doing it.

The point I've been trying to tell everyone....is SE says don't do this...that means...don't do that....if you do that...you WILL be punished....

What you do is up to you...but you do so fully warned....complaining about it and making light of what SE says won't get you very far.

As for copyright laws...they are the law...and while I may not agree with the way music is enforced in this country... in many areas..doesn't mean I'm about to risk my account for some stupid thing as playing music on a whim. Yes everyone freely does things like handing out copies of CD's and such....and various music pieces....but even Weird Al Yankovic (sp?) has to ask for permission for his parodies as well.

Like it or not.... SE owns this game....that includes your subscription and the account..the goods...the whole damn thing....they reserve the right to turn it off at will. You only have the right to stop paying them.
This is a common thing that people always forget when it comes to MMO's.

Don't believe me? Read the Terms of Service. Its in there...black and white.
    ===
As to the questions being asked? Even I can't clearly see the line - but I can make it easy. Don't record...Don't stream...Don't publish.
Odds are you will be fine..regardless of what you do....if it can't be seen or heard...you likely wont have an issue. Does that make it fun or worth while? Nope.
But its better than getting axed.
