Petition to Lift Balmung Server Lock / Impact of Server Lock on FFXIV RP Community

Move to Mateus, like every person from Balmung worth interacting with did.

I mean, I'd still prefer an officially labeled RP server (the fear developers have over it when it makes everyone content I'll never understand), but until then, this is the best option.

Damian pls. Damian stop. You have not met every single RP'er let alone every single gay RP'er on Balmung. If you think you have, you need to socialize more, boy. If anything the community has become more insulated and cliquey which was already a problem BEFORE the lock. It's not dying.

Maybe, but the people that did stay for FC/friends always seem to have an alt (or three) on Mateus. Kind of says a lot about Balmung; not pleasant things, either.

Not really unless you have some kind of bias. Balmung just has a lot of people and a lot of people means a higher chance for jerks or weirdos. It doesn't mean the location itself is worse than others. People left Balmung cause they were offered easier transfer and some didn't. Simple as that. There's really nothing to say about Balmung unless you buy into the memes or let a personal interaction color your opinion of an entire community. And to hear "native mateus" players say it, the people who came from Balmung "ruined" their server. So would that mean the bad eggs left or stayed?

Glad to hear I'm not worth interacting with because I didn't feel like abandoning an FC I spent years in, friends who I RP'd with for years, to go to a server I know nobody on.

Three years of personal experience on the server with the server lock stagnation as the final (and for me, the biggest, though I was one of the last of my circle to leave) nail in the coffin isn't buying into memes or bias. I mean we're talking the same server who's RP community has a cross-game negative reputation. I can't think of any other game I've played with that kind of notoriety towards its RP community.

RP'ers are always made fun of, that goes back to even WoW and in some servers FFXI. First thing I heard about WoW was Goldshire jokes so infamy seems common in places where ERP can or does occur. Balmung got a bad rep cause people didn't like how when Q&A sessions happened, a majority (sometimes) of the questions came from Balmung because its larger population weighted the chances of their questions being picked and the questions mostly related to glamour or adjustments other vocal parts of the community felt were unnecessary. Then this became a meme that Balmung is ONLY about (e)RP and that only bad players populate there.

Hell you still see it in threads now and again "oh this baddie came from balmung OF COURSE". Even though there's many players of varying skill spread across every server. And I'm sorry to hear that your whole three years of being on Balmung was apparently bad, perhaps it was who you interacted with on a regular basis. There's no debating your personal experience so I won't but please don't bash the server because some aspects of it weren't to your liking.

But honestly enough of bumping this thread, it needs to be let back into the void. Server is locked for a good reason and should stay that way until more people disperse
