Petition to Lift Balmung Server Lock / Impact of Server Lock on FFXIV RP Community

Already happened. Gilgamesh was the backup RP server, but it was also locked. So, the RP community settled on Matteus. A good number of RPers transferred from Balmung to Matteus as a result, and the population there exploded. Since SE ignored the call for official RP servers during the betas of XIV and ARR, they're stuck with situations like Balmung, where a large RP community is sharing a server with a good number of non-RPers, and Gilgamesh, which had the misfortune of being chosen as a secondary RP server the exact same time it was chosen as the home for the Reddit raiding community. Giving the RP community 2-3 servers back then would have prevented a number of population issues they've since run into, but what's done is done.

Perfect. you have proven one of the arguments Void. The RP community is clearly large enough to manage itself. Also the community is clearly large enough to manage 3 servers.

I am on balmung, I RP, and have no plans on moving. Because my FC which doesn't RP is where I get almost everything non rp done.

Unlock Balmung please. I can’t find enough RP anymore. It’s bad enough that the whole RP community is suffering, but if you’re gay, and looking to be among your own kind, it just gets worse.

Honestly, if you "can't find enough RP" on the biggest RP server. How is having a server with an RP tag going to help, or unlocking it? I think thats just wishful thinking more than anything tbh.

Anyone having difficulty finding RP on Balmung probably isn't looking for it or isn't proactive enough to talk to "strangers" online. ...or you know, they can make an alt on one of the other servers known to have RPers and try their luck there. The only shortage is expended effort. there are also a variety of tools and resources to find more RP, whether it's RPC, the event calendars, tumblr, discord channels, or in-game methods like search info and RP tags.

Move to Mateus, like every person from Balmung worth interacting with did.

I mean, I'd still prefer an officially labeled RP server (the fear developers have over it when it makes everyone content I'll never understand), but until then, this is the best option.

Damian pls. Damian stop. You have not met every single RP'er let alone every single gay RP'er on Balmung. If you think you have, you need to socialize more, boy. If anything the community has become more insulated and cliquey which was already a problem BEFORE the lock. It's not dying.

Maybe, but the people that did stay for FC/friends always seem to have an alt (or three) on Mateus. Kind of says a lot about Balmung; not pleasant things, either.
