That quote came out of someone's signature, so I doubt it was directed at you. I think you were pretty clear about wanting the option to automatically filter out the Perform ability just for yourself, and I completely agree that such an option should be implemented."The person who says that the only way to please them is to restrict options for others is, if you ask me, the one who deserves it least." - David Gaider
Seems to me to be a tad bit of a conflict here, I mean I don't want to restrict people from playing their bard instruments, I just want to restrict them from forcing me to hear it w/o being restricted from other sounds to which I don't have a reaction. I literally turn off game music because some of it causes me a problem. I have misophonia, certain tones can cause triggers for me, most often the reaction to the sound is anger... That being said I NEED them to fix this for my continued enjoyment of the product I paid for, just like everyone else. Does that not persist a need for me to an have option for my sanity without restricting my continued enjoyment? I mean no disrespect, I'm just trying to state my case w/o being offensive, kinda difficult considering I am still a bit triggered at the moment
I'm aware of the quote not being directed at me, yet it seemed to contradict his response ... not enough characters to post it all ... so I clipped it and just left the quote ; ;
Uh, what?
I posted the only solution we currently have available to prevent hearing these sounds without turning off all of the sounds, since you asked if there was a way to do it. I made no judgement whatsoever about either the solution or the request for it. I.e. I gave you a simple and direct answer to your question. The quote in my signature is taken from an employee's reply on a different company's forum to a poster who claimed that because straight people are the majority all games should only be catered to them.
How the heck is there a contradiction in what I posted with that? I think you're reading a ton of stuff into my post that simply isn't there.
I too do not want to hear this perform stuff and dont understand why the option to mute specifically that alone was not added at the same time.
I also turn off the music in game cus its annoying but I do want to hear the background sound effects as well as the other peoples sound effects like footsteps, shouts, jeers, crafting, gathering and what not.
when i shouted in limsa about such an option it caused a 40+ minute discussion with people chiming in on both sides of the fence with people literally saying if you dont like it just go elsewhere in the game. of which my response was i shouldnt have too SE should of added a separate option.

Seems like everyone like to play the "health' card nowadays to excuse or complaint about everything....
You don't like the noise or can't deal with it? Easy just move to another area or move further away.
Stop creating problems where they don't exist
I have no health problem. But the bards practicing perform everywhere annoys me too and I don't like that sound.
Let everyone have their own opinion, and I do think that muting certain players/bards should be a valid option.![]()
If you don't like what they have to say then simply ignore the post and move onto another thread..talk about hypocritical..
Why didn't they do something useful for Bard like up dps a bit and make Foe a 1 shot buff that doesn't constantly fall off??? Musical thingy is a total waste. *bah*
I don't mean to sound like an ass about it, but I always facepalm when someone says "This feature is a failure because I suffer from <illness> and SE hasn't catered to me". I'm all for splitting up the sound effects, but saying that feature is an "epic failure" because SE hasn't catered to you specifically is entitled.
Let people enjoy things and turn down the other player character sounds until SE resolves this issue (something which likely involves changing a lot of things on both backend and frontend, including UI, sound processing and data management)
i think its less of a health issue type of thing and more a preference thing.
i personally dont like bgm tracks playing all the time and so turn them off which there is an option for.
perform is like a bgm track in that players are always playing something and if you have more than a couple it just becomes noise as they overlap each other.
if it was added to any sound profile it should of bgm but really it needs to be its own option.
