Because you can't perform any actions either, including auto-attack. You have to sit completely still.

See I do that but I swear I still get stacks occasionally. It's like what I'm doing works like 90% of the time.

Demon face boss says look away. So I ignore it and still keep facing it and whacking it and still a stack but I didn't obey... So I should have aced that.

Seems to be a rather inconsistent mechanic.

Never ever had stacks with this.

Not trying to be rude, but maybe you're doing something wrong or lag?
Don't relay on the timer vs animation.
I always wait 1-2 seconds to be safe.

The scatter icon is pretty bad in my opinion. Is that supposed to be a play button? What about the arrows beneath? How is that supposed to mean "do something"?
It really needed an explanation >_>

Now this makes sense, I have got the debuf so many times because I thought scatter meant scatter.

There is also a giant AOE in the middle of the arena when these mechanics are going off that also gives you the same debuff. So it is possible to do it correctly but be in the AOE and still get the debuff. Once I found this out I avoid the center area. Unfortunately it is hard to see because it nearly is the same colour as the ground.

I've never managed to get this mechanic right when it's the demon mask. Are you supposed to stack and not move? Because I still get debuffed that way. :/

When the boss is telling the truth (angel face), you just need to be moving around (casting counts). You don't have to stack on people.
When the boss is lying (demon face), stand still and don't attack (auto-attacks count against you).
It's kind of like a reverse acceleratiin bomb.
