I wonder if its going to get removed eventually. I'm going to bet its only a matter of time until SE gets sued by Metallica or some other over zealous "defender" of music rights as well.

They won't sue as they can't really have much of a case since this would be classified as a cover and sounds nothing like the original material.

My guess is their lawyers made them include it just to cover their butts in case some record company is feeling particularly litigious. I highly doubt that SE is going to waste resources actively looking for people doing cover songs. As long as no one blatantly rips off a major artist and posts a recording of it online or something and then someone sees it and kicks up a stink about copywrite, I really don't see SE taking any action at all.

I don't see why they added this in the first place if they were so worried about it. It just seems like a waste of resources to implement it into the game only to remove it due to fear of getting DMCA notices.

People are making a waaay bigger deal about the copyright stuff than is warranted. It's bordering on hysterical. SE has to cover themselves from any potential litigation. The only conceivable way anyone will face punishment for this is if they're really blatant about it and whoever owns the rights to the music makes a formal legal complaint. This way, SE can punish the player and absolve themselves of responsibility.
People are acting like Yoshi's going to be sitting in Limsa all day handing out 30 day bans for anyone who tries a poor rendition of Dragonsong.

GM's get pretty cranky if you /grovel too many times. That doesn't even make noise. I wouldn't be surprised if people tried throwing reports over people just toying with the keys because of it being a new feature.
(Also, I know it's just to avoid copyright, but their wording makes it sound like you aren't allowed to play SE stuff unless it's FFXIV)
