There is a way to turn off performances, it's in the settings. It also prevents other types of noise like Holy/Unleash spam, crafting sounds and emote sounds.

Sure I can also unplug my Headphones.
Why would I mute the ingame sound?

I fully agree that there should be a separate option for the performances, though to be honest: they aren't more annoying that the "large masses" sound already is.
