Oh now that would be hilarious seeing as players can and did record multiple footage of an obvious cheating/botthing/etc. but SE still wouldn't do anything about it because of the 'it might have been an edit or some other bollocks' claim.

I mean really? Do you think they will only give an excuse to cheaters but not legitimate players? Sounds like PR suicide to me.

This is basically a "cover your ass" clause for SE. Most of the time you won't have to worry about it, but if you stream it and the wrong group sees it then SE can ban you for it. If you want to blame someone, blame the overly litigious world we live in, SE is just trying to protect themselves with the clause.

Of course, the alternative here is to make your own songs and not worry about it...

Given that music corporations are notoriously terrible for flagging anything and everything, even full covers that make use of their own instrumentals? I don't think it would be SE actually doing the head hunting, but would have to bow to pressure regardless if caught. I personally agree with you but the stakes are different for a company when it's their bottom line being hurt, as disgusting as it is to say.

Jeez...well, I read the updated materials usage policy. While I do believe it's as strict as it says, this is also a warning to watch your ass when playing in a heavily populated area. If you want to play third party music, do it somewhere that is private. It sucks, and I am sure we will hear the first person punished for ignoring this before long. Honestly, I thought this extended only to recording and uploading online, but if it's going to the level of simply performing, then there's almost no point in even having this action...

...Almost. I'm still going to play the Pharos Sirius theme because I like it.

It's probably going to be one of those things where no one will bother you if you're in private. But if you're in a public area, exercise restraint or you run the risk of drawing a GM's attention as someone in the area could be recording even if you aren't.

technically the PS4 is recording non-stop. normally it deletes the recordings automatically if you don't say it should be saved, but as soon as a PS4 player is in your range you are on video^^

and this alone, even when deleted afterwards, could be a legal problem...

Lest we forget, people with NVIDIA graphics cards, and people on Windows 10, have got shadow recording (for example Windows 10 will always keep the last 30 seconds of gameplay in memory so if I do a "Capture that" type command, it grabs the last 30 seconds and saves it automatically. Great for when I want to catch a particularly awesome moment and not lose it!). I think AMD has something similar too. So it ain't just the PS4!

Oh, and let's not forget it isn't truly deleted when that happens either. It's just marked as "This is OK to overwrite" and removes the ability for you to navigate it normally. But a forensics team could quite easily get stuck in and find it. Not only that, but those "data recovery" companies also have access to similar tools. So yeah...

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

SE have done this to cover themselves from potential litigation. I really, really, really doubt they're going to have mods scouring the game for anyone smashing out the theme to The Simpsons on a harp.
