It’s posts like this that make the good mentors stay silent in duties. And then, in turn, people complain: “Well, there was a mentor in my X duty, and they didn’t give us any advice at all!” Because people like you call them “elitist” for trying to help. Certainly, there’s no need for rudeness when giving advice, and if the person was being rude while giving out advice, he should work on that. But someone genuinely wanting to help a player in a nice, polite way, and then they’re met with this? This is wrong; it makes you the elitist.

Pressing buttons =/= good DPS. I can spam Drain on a caster all day long, doesn’t make me good. While SAM is mind-numbingly easy to play, just “pressing lots of buttons” isn’t enough; there is way more to it than that. It’s quite possible the PLD saw that you were doing something incorrect, and just wanted to let you know “Hey, you should do it this way instead”. You also don’t need a parser for that: I can see when a BRD isn’t using their songs because of the lack of the “Critical Hit Up buff” they give now. I can see when a BRD isn’t using their DoTs when they aren’t on the boss. I can see when DPS aren’t AOEing when things take forever to die, and their TP remains at full the entire time. You don’t always need a damage meter to see when people are doing something wrong.
