look i about lean my job for my self. part of lvling my character for 1-70 or 50-70 is learn how to play my character
In my experience, people don't give advice unsolicited in any content outside of extreme primals/savage unless something is seriously wrong and very noticeable. Perhaps you just ran into an eager mentor looking to help you out, but it could also be that you didn't learn as much as you thought you did leveling to 70..

I main SAM but I have PLD to 70. If we're having issues with DPS and I'm not seeing Higanbana, best believe I'm calling you on the carpet.

I don't agree with your request or your false assessment of what constitutes elitism. Cheers.

Some things about this game you can only learn if others take the time to tell you.

So you are saying WE NEED to play good, but you have to get away? How is that elitist when we simply ask you to click more buttons or is it hard to believe they are clickable? If someone is giving you advice you dont take it as harrasment, you actually have people trying to make you better or is it hard trying to get help and advice from people? wow...

I cannot agree with this. I get you want to learn machnist, but this is a team orientated game. If I see something I can advise on, and it's causing in my eyes more than a simple minor issue, I will say something, solicited or otherwise. I'm there to help people. Usually, it's only the basics of the class I point out (since I don't know the intricacies of the class). If that gets people's panties in a twist, then I see it as their problem, not mine, for simply helping. I treat it as like a job, if you're not performing as good as you can be in a real job, you'll first of all get advised and supported, if that fails, you get fired. I will take the same approach here. If this sounds harsh to you then I'm sorry, but I will not mince my words over it. I treat this like I would treat a real life job.

That being said, I get you're frustrated, but dependent on how the advice is given, it isn't harassment, it isn't elitism. It's called helping support the team forward in ways that you can. Like as a healer, I will weave in as much DPS as I can. That being said, we won't get so uppity about minor mistakes in dungeons (even Expert for the most part). It's Extreme Primals and Savage that you're expected to know your job almost inside out.

As for the disability, I myself have a communication disability. So I can understand the challenges brought on by disability. That being said, most players do understand that some people are genuinely handicapped in this game due to disability, and we adapt around that. We're trying to make the playerbase better as a whole.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

It’s posts like this that make the good mentors stay silent in duties. And then, in turn, people complain: “Well, there was a mentor in my X duty, and they didn’t give us any advice at all!” Because people like you call them “elitist” for trying to help. Certainly, there’s no need for rudeness when giving advice, and if the person was being rude while giving out advice, he should work on that. But someone genuinely wanting to help a player in a nice, polite way, and then they’re met with this? This is wrong; it makes you the elitist.

Pressing buttons =/= good DPS. I can spam Drain on a caster all day long, doesn’t make me good. While SAM is mind-numbingly easy to play, just “pressing lots of buttons” isn’t enough; there is way more to it than that. It’s quite possible the PLD saw that you were doing something incorrect, and just wanted to let you know “Hey, you should do it this way instead”. You also don’t need a parser for that: I can see when a BRD isn’t using their songs because of the lack of the “Critical Hit Up buff” they give now. I can see when a BRD isn’t using their DoTs when they aren’t on the boss. I can see when DPS aren’t AOEing when things take forever to die, and their TP remains at full the entire time. You don’t always need a damage meter to see when people are doing something wrong.
