Hey there, I wanted to put a few things out there for anyone who's excited to try Rival Wings tomorrow, or even just a little bit curious about it:
1. We're All Going To Be New To It - This will be both exciting and probably frustrating at some points because while we have a basic idea of what to do, that's all we know so far. However, there are PvPers out there who have a general sense of team play and will likely step up to lead. Assuming they aren't just giving bad directions or advice, it's worth it to lend them your support and work as a team. It's more fun that way anyways.
2. Information is REALLY Scarce - Piggybacking off #1, part of the reason we know so little is because SE has told us so little. And while I'm sure the patch notes will give a little more, there have always been interesting possibilities not explained in the patch notes or any official information given by SE. That said, if you figure something out, share it with your team! Share it with the community! Build it up and keep it competitive, but more than that, help everyone to learn and enjoy it more.
3. Please Participate - I feel bad saying this, but because of the rampant botting and afking for XP back at the start of Stomblood, it soured many toward PvP who may have been trying it for the first time. If you plan to queue for it, please be active and participate. Yes, defense seems like it's going to be an important part of RW gameplay, and someone's got to man those cannons. But if the area is clear and your team needs help, please be willing to help. Don't just sit in a cannon or circle the key points all match, and definitely don't be the guy that spoils the fun for your team.
4. If You Like It, Bring A Friend! - Of course, no one can know right away if they like it or not, certainly not before it's here to play. But if you find you DO like it, spread the word! Invite a friend, or find others on your server and team up with them. Create a cross world party if you meet someone you enjoyed playing with or thought was really good. I can't stress enough this is a golden opportunity to be among the first to try and learn a new (to FFXIV) PvP mode, and be the example others will see, and perhaps want to follow. So try it out, and if you like it, invite others to do the same!
5. Have Fun! - I know that sounds weird to say, but I say it for a reason. Some will win, and some will lose, and no one is guaranteed to do either (except lose if you don't try). It's new content, at a time we don't have all that much as is, so HAVE FUN! Set aside any skepticism or cynicism, and approach it with an open mind. Yes, maybe it seems like this game or that game, maybe it's going to be more fun than Frontlines, or maybe not. Something might not work, something might work too well. . . But don't worry about that! Just give it a go, and have a good time.
That's all for now. I hope to see you around in there. Say hi if you do see me!
