Low Lwvel Gathering / Crafting Tools

The beginning tools we get lev 1-5 get replaced fairly quickly to be able to get 100% SB, so what does everyone else do with those items ? Just keep working with them to get SB
( so you can convert for materia ) or just vendor sell them? I'm still fairly new to the game. Started the trial version 10-29 and bought the game a week ago, so I'll probably be bothering the forums if I can't find an answer on google! Thanks in advance !

Welcome to FF14. If your spiritbond is greater than 85% I would keep it until finished otherwise desynth or sell it. If you need help feel free to send me a tell in game.

I wouldn't worry about Materia until you get to the Crafting V stuff, which isn't until Level 60+.

They are too easily replaced, and in the end run, won't matter as far as getting stuff done. Basically, with gathering and crafting, your first job is to get up to Level 50 as a DoM/DoW job so you can then do Ixals for crafting XP (also do the GC daily turn-ins) to get your crafts up, and do gathering GCs to get your gathering up (throw some leves in if you fall behind).

Then, once all of your crafts are 50, move onto the Moogles until you're 60. Level all of your crafts to 60 using the Moogles. This will build you a huge stack of crystals (you get 60 crystals per day, 3 packs of 20 of random elements IIRC) and Kupo Nuts. Don't buy the crafting gear with the Kupo Nuts; check the Glass Fiber prices first. You can get the crafting gear a much better way later without spending valuable Kupo Nuts.

Do Khloe's stuff in Idyllshire when you get there to get Lv60 crafting gear. By now you should have some Crafting/Gathering V materia (you get several of these from Moogle quests) that you can stick in this new gear.

THEN, from THEN on, THEN you worry about Spiritbond.

Messing with anything less than V materia is a total waste of time. Now, if you happen to have a 100% SB item, DO convert it, because vendoring the Materia is going to give you far more than vendoring the item itself. You can check the market, but usually the Market is only like 10% above the vendor price (Tier I materia usually vendors for 296... the market is usually 300-325.. not worth it IMO).

Tiers I-IV are not a waste of time. When you're advance melding later in the game its very helpful to have low level materia for those last few slots, especially when you're only a few points away from cap. Also, on Jenova the lower level materia sells much better than mid level because so few are farming it and it has good demand so even if you don't keep it, you can make some good gil off it. I've seen t2 materia hover in the 5-15K range for weeks at a time with buys every few days for example. Even the cheaper combat materia sells for over 1K usually, thats not small when you're still low level.

Actually some of the lower tier materia sells for a fair amount depending on your server. Crafting and gathering materia on my server ranges from 5-20k each. If you are having trouble spirit bonding things, meld some low level battle materia to them that increases the rate it bonds.

I tried to SB and convert them. I forget when rapid synth becomes available, but its good for spirtbonding.

One reason I tell people to level their crafts in parallel is because the armor and jewelry spiritbonds so much faster.

Once you get to L42 combat job start doing the beastman tribe quests. I believe you can start the ixal quests anytime as long as you have any crafter at all. I will check this later. The beastman vendors sell stuff that no other vendors do.
