    Dragoon Suggestion

So in the LIVE Letter from the Producer videos, Yoshi-P touched on Dragoons and their wyvern pets, about how they were inseparable. I completely agree with this. He then asked a question. Would you want your character's stats weakened to balance the pet/character combo? To this I would suggest...

In my opinion, the only reason I like a wyvern by my side is because it looks extremely cool. I wouldn't play a Dragoon if my stats were seriously lower because I had a pet. So because of this, I came up with a small solution. How about having the Wyvern always stay by the Dragoon's side, but have no health and it being simply for looks. Now, it goes without saying that the Dragoon will have some very specific skills. What you can do is that when the Dragoon uses these skills, the Wyvern does something. For instance, when the Dragoon does something along the lines of a penta-stab, you can have the wyvern assist in the attack (Cool animation here). The stats don't have to be split because the damage is not being done by the wyvern, it's simply the skill itself doing the damage. The wyvern itself is simply there for the looks and animation.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't think about the Dragoon as "Pet + Character" but rather the wyvern being the extension of a Dragoon, like the Dragoon and the wyvern are one character. Therefore, it makes since if the wyvern has no health because the Dragoon and wyvern share a mystical bond of sorts. If the Dragoon dies, the wyvern also dies.

TLDR: Dragoon can still have a wyvern without split stats. Wyvern is simply for vanity purposes.

I'd love some feedback from the community on this. I understand if many of you disagree, this is simply an opinion from one user. So don't take it to heart and keep it to a low flaming level please.

If what your saying is give us a Wyvern but don't have it attack separately but have some of our abilities use it, then it might work.

Then again it would look lame having a Wyvern fly by you but not doing anything until you activate it.

But it wouldn't be idle at all. Like I said, keep in mind that the Dragoon and wyvern are one and the same. If the Dragoon does a normal attack, the wyvern should assist. So every action the Dragoon does, the wyvern must also do something.

Maybe they can have a skill named something like Wyvern Aid or something. A buff with a moderately long cd (5 minutes maybe) that has your pet assist you with the skill. Like Fire Breath might become a dual Fire Breath with the help of your wyvern or when you jump he can fly you up or push you down as you fall. Just a few ideas.

Yes, but see the point is that the Dragoon which we're all familiar with always had a wyvern out. Which is why I suggest the idea of making the wyvern not a pet, but a part of the Dragoon class itself. Therefore, the Dragoon and wyvern stay inseparable.

But that's not making it a pet, that's making it more as an add-on. He can stay with you, but you can use a buff that makes it so that he can also be part of your skills.

The wyvern isn't a pet though, it's what makes a Dragoon a Dragoon. Like I said, don't think about the Dragoon and his wyvern as "Pet + Character" but rather think of the two of them as 1 character.

In fact, what you're suggesting is exactly what Yoshi-P was talking about. They'd have to balance out the stats because having a pet just makes you that much stronger.

I'd like you to explain to me how that sounds like Pet+Character at all... Am I missing something? Having a Wyvern following you and being able to enhance one of your skills as a buff makes him a pet? You could just as easily make a buff called something like "Dragoon's Spirit" do the same thing and it wouldn't be considered a pet...

Edit: At least in my perspective, what Yoshi-P was against was having a Wyvern fight with you like a beast master. I'm saying that you could create a buff for Dragoon that makes it so that your Wyvern assists you in your next skill. An example being something like instead of the Dragoon breathing fire, the Wyvern and the Dragoon both breath fire to create a stronger fire. After that the Wyvern just flies behind you until you use the buff again.

Maybe you're missing the point I'm trying to make? o_O
I'm simply pushing the fact that the wyvern must be involved in everything the Dragoon does. It can't simply assist on just some of the skills via a buff with a long cooldown.

Alright, I can see where you are going with that. Though I still have no idea why my idea was considering the wyvern as a pet...

Either way, yes I would have to agree that a wyvern being part of all your skills aesthetically is pretty cool, though if you look back at older FF games it's not exactly how that worked. Wyverns and Dragoons were close for sure, but in an offensive situation the wyvern isn't used 100% of the time, it was more like 20%. This is why I thought a buff enhancing your skills once instead of the wyvern being there in every skill was more correct.
