Look at any Asian based game that has cosmetics for both genders, 9 times out of 10 the female outfits are not only far more appealing but have way more work and design put into them. As for the argument about why dont they just make male equivalents of every outfit and the answer is because it takes them more time and resources to alter the cosmetic to suit the male counterpart. Why would they spend more resources and time on that than just putting them into another female outfit which would sell for more profit? Regardless of how many of X gender play the game, female outfits will always be more appealing and more profitable, this is a undisputed fact.

Why should SE NOT create a male version of an item at the same time they create a female version? I personally prefer female items, as do a lot of people, but who cares? They're already taking the time to design something new. Why on earth should they not create a male version?

Obviously exaggerating here, but would people be OK if SE released Miqo'te-only items now and then? Miqo'te are super popular, loads of people play them...with some of the logic being used in this thread, they should start releasing Miqo-only gear and we should be OK with it.

I'm totally on-board with Serilda in regards to why I stuck with FF. I picked it up because a friend told me about it, but after playing trashy F2P Korean MMOs with female-restricted jobs, races, and outfit options, XIV was a breath of fresh air. We all had the same stuff with some design variations between gender sets sometimes. Now I feel like a second-class player after years of female-only, female-centric glamour options, seasonal gear, and because I'm a healer main. I have zero understanding in regards to SE's design policies if they think "but guys don't want to wear dresses/we can't have them wear feminine things" when more than half of all the mage gear in the game is basically "not a dress because we called it a robe". Especially the WHM and AST artifact gear sets. They look really good but when they exist and stuff like the Thavnarian set is gender-locked, I get just a little irritated. Especially when girls can wear anything that we can unless it's arbitrarily locked to us. I don't want male-exclusive gear denied to female chars any more than I want to be denied the plethora of options that female characters have available. Stop locking stuff in the first place. So yes, give the girls corsets. Give us corsets too. Corsets for everyone!

I don't mind females getting cool stuff to wear as long as we get something at the same time. SE used to be fair but now they're no better than those shameless Korean MMOs I left behind. I'll definitely think twice about playing any future MMOs they release. I can go to just about any MMO ever if I want to feel like an afterthought from the designers. Most of them won't charge me for the privilege of playing.

(Also, tangent: why do we only get ugly pants? Why can't we wear shorts? Men like to wear shorts too, SE. They don't have to be booty shorts, just some decent above the knee sets would be good. And more short sleeved/sleeveless tops without buttcapes and dangly bits for everyone. Thanks.)

It's weird how deep the assumption that all gamers are stereotypical straight gamer guys who want to look at cute girls in bunny suits runs. I have money. Take my money, S-E.
My assumption is backed by the rmt spamming in the major cities and Quarrymill.

I'm reasonably confident that SE can account for bots when they compile player statistics. I'd be willing to bet that the released population data is shown sans bots, within a low margin of error.

Let's say that you're right. Female gamers value fashion and interesting visuals, male gamers value utility and bulk. It's a generalisation but one the gaming industry is certainly guilty of making in the real world. You have an anecdote about how you value glamour far more than your male coworkers. That's valid.

Then what about the mind-blowing possibility that perhaps, some of the people who picked male characters are not male in real life? Many of the 'more glamour for male characters!' crowd have said that's exactly where they're coming from with their requests, and invested considerable effort in showing redesigns of the locked items they want which fit nicely on a male frame with minimal adjustments (often none). A lot of male players of female characters just stick their Miqo'te (sorry for the generalisation, but...) in a skimpy bikini and never think about it any harder than that, whereas the FF series has historically featured a stunning variety of male characters in beautiful clothing and never seemed to suffer for it. I think the dev team are wrong to make this assumption after attracting a bunch of people to the game for their comparatively progressive attitudes in the past.

As long as the Corset comes with Garters and Stockings, I'm all for it.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I am not so naïve that I am not aware of females controlling male avatars. But it seems it's the gender of the avatar, not the one who's controlling it where the decisions are made. You would think that they would factor in who's controlling the WoL when creating new attire for both males and females, and maybe they do. Perhaps they have all these graphs and pie charts, and ultimately decide to keep it simple for males, and hire an entire model design team for the females. But my own opinion has SE as seeing these societal standards as an easy out to spend less time on male attire. We really do neglect to see how stretched out their resources are. So I see both sides to this.

If speaking historically, it is true that males received a lot of treatment when it comes to their attire, but we're also talking mainly console games that don't expand over time. Historically, devs could spend a lot of time designing attire for their male heroes and villains because it would be the only one they would design for the entire game. That said, males do have some really awesome attire in this game. There have been several options I wanted that I could not wear because my character is female. They may not get the same treatment as females, but I also wouldn't go as far to say, or make it seem like they are neglected.

It does! ..and it's such a bugger to get! The Autumn Dress is currently selling at 14 mil on Hyperion, while the Hannish Shirt is running for a cool 25 mil.
