Ok so what I've seen in here is that:

(a) If you wait until 2.0 things will magically get better

and

(b) If you haven't completed every last thing there is to do in the game, then you have no say.

Let's begin.

First of all, the lot of you still playing and riding on the "2.0 is going to be night and day difference" bandwagon need to stop. 2.0 is merely a graphics overhaul, landscape change and a UI replacement. THAT'S IT! There aren't going to be 50 new dungeons, 30 new sets of armor, 2 new jobs, 1 new class, etc. etc. that comes with it. If you want that stuff expect to wait till 2014 for it. 2.0 is simply the start of SE being able to focus more time and effort on rolling content out faster, so again, if you think 2.0 is a content giant, you're dead wrong.

Now to address the other players on here that have brought up current content completion.

Most of you who have said that not completing every tiny little miniscule and redundant task in this game disqualifies you from complaining about content, need to seriously take off the rose tinted glasses and cut the Final Fantasy Cheerleader crap out.

We all know the current crafting system is a total joke now, so to tell someone they need to grind each class up to 50 by spamming "standard" for hours on end, is complete stupidity.

Achievements have little if ANY reward for their completion and are more or less aesthetic bragging rights in nature . To tell another player to accept this as viable content that should be completed, is flat out moronic.

Due to the clusterscrew of dated items and crap gear in this game, telling another player that if they don't own every piece of it, they haven't "enjoyed" that content is down right desperate.

Telling players that if they have not fought every single monster in this game, whether it's rewarding to do so or not, is also very foolish to use as defense in a "no content" argument.

To anyone that says a player who hasn't explored every map, has not truly completed the content, needs to be slapped. Why bother exploring a landscape that will be totally changed in 2013? There's no sense in familiarizing yourself with it or even gaining access to all the waypoints.

I can go on and on here with some of the most retarded and poor excuses for "content" that the group of you here have suggested as "viable content" but i'd just take too much space up lol.

The fact of the matter here, is that most of the games worthwhile content lies in the primal and boss fights. Everything else is either: too broken to enjoy doing it, or is just non-rewarding superfluous extra junk that SE throws in to make the hardcore players happy.

As others have stated, this WILL NOT change much in the next year. You will get 7 new jobs with AF armor to experience (most of which are just using the ultimate skills they took away from us in 1.20), two new fights and maybe a few new sets of armor. Most of it is ancillary and of little value to the general cross section that plays this game.

If you want any real groundbreaking changes to this game, expect to wait until Q2 or Q3 of 2013, but by then most peoples patients and interests will have long faded to the other rockstar MMO lineup that is in store for the gaming community in the next 16 months.

I'm sorry if this sounds "troll-like" or really negative, but I can't bring myself to be some unrealistic wishful thinker who believes this game stands a chance of securing a stable, money-making playerbase with so many odds stacked against it.

The cold hard truth is, that each month that passes, it becomes harder and harder for SE to keep potential players interested. This becomes more apparent when other fun and quickly growing MMO's start emerging around it that tower above and cast a shadow of forgetfulness on FFXIV.

It will be interesting to see just how much money SE wants to throw at this game to try and put even the tiniest spotlight back on it come 2013. My guess is not much. This game is so far in the red right now it's not even funny.

If this game can acquire the 50 - 100k players it needs to survive and thrive in 2013, then I am definitely going to become a believer in SE. Until then I have MAGNANIMOUS grounds to base my doubts on.
