(Request) If something dies midcast, can my cast still go off?

It's frustrating as any caster when you're trying to cast on a target, and it gets killed mid-cast and you just lose the whole GCD. It'd be nice if, even if the target dies midcast, we still got the cast off: Why? Well, refreshing AF/UI, getting dualcast, not wasting Flare is all tied to a spell going off. You get nothing but a flat "Well too bad" if the target dies midcast.

Have to change how UI and AF is coded too then.

They only refresh if the target takes damage, even if it's a 0. If it's dead it can't even take 0.

This is 100% why I switch targets early as a caster and let the physical damage dealers or tank mop up the last hit.

As a Black Mage main, I have a certain rule I follow with non-boss mobs. "Let tank and melee handle the near-dead stuff. Bring misery to those full of life." Basically, as a caster, you should always be focusing your attention on the one with the most health. If it drops down below another, switch over. If they're dying at the same time, wait for both to get close to 20% and just simple AoE burn or stay in Umbral Ice.

When I played LotRO there was a target system option for 'redirect skill on target death' or something like that which would automatically switch you attack to the nearest mob if the one your skill was targeted on died before it hit. I could see it causing problems with hitting an unintended target, though, like one you're not supposed to DPS at that point and the auto-switch potentially getting you wiped... Though that's a rare case issue, people would still complain about it.

It's not the easiest thing to implement plus if the game assumes a target when you aren't suppose to target X it could cause a lot of issues. It's better to just deal with the 3 seconds DPS loss.

You wanna know what's worse? Your target dying mid-animation during Benediction. That's a 3 minute cooldown. Or, going to use Hallowed Ground and you die before the animation finishes, and therefore that's a 7 minute cooldown wasted. But, it's a design choice by SE AFAIK.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

Lol...sometimes it feels like everyone follows that rule. Tank, sometimes undergeared or not properly using cooldowns on a big pull, and I am sitting there healing my ass off staring at that mob that's had 5hp for almost a whole minute. Drives me crazy when people won't attempt to at least finish it off with an aoe or something. Even if its hp is low, that's damage I'm still healing. If swiftcast is up i'll usually just swift holy or something to end it. But seems way too often that targets are left alive that shouldn't be anymore.

I see this sometimes too. Only magic dps I play is RDM, so when things get low I usually swap targets to cast jolt/impact/ect. on a new, high-hp target, then swap back while it's casting and throw my insta-cast on whatever it was that was low (if it's still alive.) I might lose a half second of dps here or there, but I'm sure it won't be the difference between a wipe and a clear.
