If it's stuff you can buy/make/loot without much trouble, it's not worth keeping.
If you genuinely don't want to go to the trouble of reacquiring, store in retainers.
Specialty gear, such as seasonal or one-time-only quest rewards can mostly be stored in an Armoire at any inn.
Okay thanks
Check the Calamity Salvager and Recompense npcs in each town. They have a lot of gear like the seasonal gear we get, Garo pvp gear, the Job specific equipment like you get for SMN BLM WAR, seasonal stuff is in there as well as the stuff we get from newbie quests like the Custom Made robe, Custom Made Tunic, Sylvan belt, Scion attire from main scenario, House Fortemps Kite shield, the Kabuto set from SB, Postmoogle cap, and a ton of other things that take up space but we really want to keep.
If you see your gear in there and you can buy it, it means you can buy it back from the npc later if you need it.
The garo gear being in there was VERY helpful with space.

One thing though. If you spent the gil on augmenting your job specific gear, remember you will not get the augmented version back.
Both Recompense and Calamity only give you back items that you have previously acquired in the game. For example if you missed the Moonfire Faire for last year, it wont let you buy back the quest items from that seasonal event.

Weirdly enough, most of the Recompense gear is also gear you can just dump in the Armoire (with seemingly unlimited storage), so, I guess just a matter of preference for where you want to recollect.
everything was full and i couldnt see my way to throw any of it away. I was trying to level all these alts and i would reuse and go through everything just to get a few spaces freed up.
i cant speak of event gear you would like to keep but i just threw everything out. I kept three sets..tank, healer and a dps i wanted to play..well i didnt do very well as tank so i got rid of that.
when the palace of the dead came around i felt it was pointless..there are vendors every 5 levels or so that sell common gear and since gear really didnt matter in that place what was the point for jobs i wanted to get to max but not really play.
if i do tank or heal ill just run those dungeons and keep just that gear and get rid of stuff as i level..and if months later i want to do another dps or tank ill just do that again.
having capacity bags full all the time made this game not fun for me so screw it..dump it
Most of the event gears can be stored in armoire, so I recommend to put them there.
Don't worry about keeping gears/weapon below lv50 as they become obsolete so fast. Leveling alt classes in POTD doesn't require you to wear anything (except weapon), so your first long lasting gears will be the lv50 class armor (can be stored in armoire) or ironworks gears then lv60 is Shire gears and at lvl 70 are lv70 Class Gears, AlaMhigan Gears and Lost Allagan Gears.
I wouldn't recommend to open up all obtainable armor coffers from the class quests as they take up more space. Unless you want to cast glamour.
