I can see their point though. Many other games give small items in exchange for unexpected downtime. They could do something small like throw us some silver chocobo feathers or another form of compensation. Nothing too major, but something considering that it takes play time from people who may not be able to play a lot due to having a RL.

While I can see your point about them throwing us a bone with something like the silver chocobo feathers, I actually genuinely think that not only does SE not owe us a thing (as the service interruptions are not on their part), but they shouldnt throw us a bone to begin with, as while it may not be in the way intended, it'd still make the example to people like the ones DDoS'ing the servers (for whatever reason) that such tactics work to get things your way.

It's a incredibly risky thing to allow as it entices people doing things like this again whenever SE does something that upsets people

I concede to your point. I was just saying some other games compensate for unexpected downtime. Usually it’s not for DDOS though, but for patch fixes.

Indeed. If memory serves from my time back with WoW (yes yes, get your groans out now everyone), every now and then Blizzard would for instance actually add a couple of days for free to any active subscription, as a sort compensation for cumulative time that the game had been offline for patching, maintenance or anything of the sort.

I dont think anyone would argue that's a bad thing to do as it's most deffinitively a developer made "issue" that they then chose to compensate people for. But while SE's been quite generous and paused things like the auto demolition for houses when there's been a significant natural disaster preventing people from having acess to the game, it feels kinda silly and dangerous to ask them to take what is likely turn out to be a financial hit, for a problem that's not only not their fault, but something they're in all likelyhood either doing or already tried everything in their power to alleviate

(Not arguing against you or anything. Just wanted to elaborate ^^")

Wait, what? When did you play WoW, back in Vanilla? If it wasn't during that period then I call BS. I was subbed from Burning Crusade to Legion and never, not once, got time credited for patch day or maintenance downtimes.

Unless you are talking about the debacle surrounding the Warlords expansion launch, which was a one-time deal to apologize for how awfully they handled things. Which again, was their fault, not their ISP's (as is the case here.)

Definitely remember getting time in BC and Lich King. But they were for patches that had excessive maintenance during the week(think it was over 12+hours after initial patch might have been more). Basically what most MMO's considers a normal amount right now. Never got free time for DDOS and FFXI never got free time no matter how unplayable a game was at any given time.

I did infact start in the tail end of Vanilla, some time before TBC was announced and launched. However I'm freely willing to admit that I might've just imagined it then, as was my intent to imply with the very beginning of the thing you quoted.

Either way, thank you kindly for the correction! I havent played WoW in years, so I had no idea if it was still happening nor when they would've stopped if it ever did happen

Companies only do compensation (of any style) for unexpected and extended downtime that was within the realm of the company to prevent.
If the game went down for a week because of something SQE did (and it wasn't a scheduled down time), or if there was a widespread error with the login server that didn't allow players to get into the game; then they would be in a position to compensate the player base.

Something like this though? SQE cannot reward the player base for the trouble that a DDoS attack caused, because then there would be setting a precedent for the company's public relations with it's customers and even customers may be incentivized to contribute to a DDoS in order to push SQE for more conciliatory items.

Ya, because people will be tempted to BREAK THE LAW for a chance at getting $1 worth of free digital stuff. Do some of you even think before you type or read your own posts before hitting submit?

Also the majority of unplanned service disruptions are not the direct fault of that company and that's what makes then UNPLANNED. Guess what though, it's called customer service and giving a damn about your customers. They pay YOU money, not the company that supposedly is the one being hit. And my guess? The true target is SE and they are just indirectly attacking SE for the most efficient results. Since no one can prove or disprove that, every company that is effected should be assuming the ddos is meant for them.

W/e not like it matters to me anymore anyways. Another day of lagg every 20 minutes was enough. I gave them until the end of my sub month. It's just a shame there was no option to tell them the real reasons why I was un-subbing though.
