Can someone elaborate on what "Free Company-related fraud" is and what counter measures you implemented? I'm really curious and this description is very vague... >x>

Hmm, it's probably vague on purpose. If they revealed what measures they implemented, people intent on fraud would find ways to circumvent them.

Hopefully it means that they did something about the long-standing issue where an officer can promote themselves to an admin.

It most likely had something to do with Free Company chests. People were disconnecting interacting with them last night.

They also locked up all the hub cities (including Rhalgr's Reach) and the residential areas during the emergency maint. they had this morning, which makes we even more curious... >x>

Yeah, I want to speculate that the DDOS wave might have been related to FC chests as well, and experience from other games tells me that there's only one illegitimate reason people would want to mess with FC chests in such a fashion - an attempt to duplicate items.

Something similar happened a lot in MapleStory with how player inventory and player storage worked, along with the 'cash shop currency market' storage. If a massive DDOS wave hit the game, it was a safe bet that people were trying to duplicate items by forcing rollbacks on their inventory. This was pretty much common knowledge due to how often it happened, and hackers openly bragging about doing this with no repercussions. The devs were eventually forced to axe the 'cash shop currency market' entirely to stop this from happening.

Of course, FFXIV's infrastructure is likely much stronger for the devs to detect such a thing happening quickly, and to implement a potential hotfix without taking down the entire game.
