What I find funniest about the XI-2 argument people make Jennestia, is that if they HAD just made this game XI-2 instead of what it was, it probably would have sold more and done better than what we have now.Indeed, a standard MMORPG would do better than an XI-2, even though I've yet to see anyone ever say remake Vana`diel -- Generally just the ones who hate XI assume anything being used from XI would mean make a sequel, since said people don't know the difference between using what works and make it better/do your own spin of it (standard MMORPG) and learning from what you did and not throwing away the experience (learning from XI and making it better, not worse.)
Good try though.
your right. But what we have now is a game in apha stage that is pay to play, so it wouldn't take much to sell more copys then people who are playing now. The question is, would it have sold more copys then 2.0 will when it releases.
I have my own concept of HNMs =)
They're High Notorious Monsters, same thing as saying High-level Notorious Monsters, therefore I use HNMs, but I see that you don't like it that much so I'm gonna call them...

That remains to be seen, but I certainly hope it does. I think there were many great ideas they could have taken from Xi but didn't, but I am glad they didnt just make a carbon copy of it. The drops from tough nms for example should be more like it was in XI, but adding something like that wouldnt make me feel like they are trying to turn this game into another XI. It would only mean they kept what works and threw out what doesn't.
Let's go kill some Fur-dot-chnumzI have my own concept of HNMs =)

The main issue I see here, its not the items, the method there obtained, nor is it the stats. The problem is that character growth has been at dead stop for longer then it was most likely planed for.
If the winglet was say a level 54 or 59 sword. It outclassing the scimitar would be a complete non issue. Its the same for every thing else.

Umm.. it's not? Is this a serious argument? Well if the HNM sword was level 48 or 49 then it being out classes makes sense! Just nerf the swords level it makes perfect sense! The main issue I see here, its not the items, the method there obtained, nor is it the stats. Yeah, but that's the problem, those are both L50 items, and one item is obtained harder than the other, but gives less than the other. That's what I think is kinda wrong. The main issue I see here, its not the items, the method there obtained, nor is it the stats. [edit] Also, to point out this: the Winglet is L49, and the Scimitar is 50.
When did I assert that we wanted a "band aid job" to fix this? I totally agree that the numerical changes need to take into account the big picture (future weapons we're not privy to, 2.0 long term weapons, etc.). From my original post:Not that I don't agree the old content should be relevant and incorporated in new ways. However, saying that a single person from development could do this is ignorance. Even something as "simple" as adjusting damage numbers would require more than a single person. Sure, any derp can go and change 96 > 98 but it wouldn't be that simple.
They just need to take the time to think of the larger picture and find a solution that can be implemented over the life of the game, not a quick band aid job to patch the wound.
"... 1 member of the Combat Team that's astute enough to look at the stats of current high level gear, and...
* Adjust numerical values of currently existing NM / FNM Drops (probably in a spreadsheet).
Of course they have to think about Balance and making sure it won't overpower anything or outshine anything too much..."
Whoever the Lead/Senior Combat Designer is in charge of this area would certainly be more than capable of reevaluating the stats on the *6* old NM Items (as an example) and make incremental changes if need be.
I never said it was an instant fix, nor that it'd only take 10 minutes. But what Doctor Mog, Xatsh and others are asking for isn't something as extreme as "give us a whole new Continent with brand new HNMs / Models / and something more intricate than Dynamis."
SE has currently invalidated all their previous "max level" content (Original NMs, Faction NMs, Dzemael) and it's something that could be salvaged, or as Doctor Mog said, they'd need to generate far more content as a replacement for that, if they're going for that type of "3 month and it's overwritten" philosophy.
LMAO. If you don't know what the word means don't use it. Using "BIG" words to sound intelligent often ends
with the offender looking like a compelete tool.
