hmmm.... right now all NM armor/weapons are weaker then crafted ones sadly, hope that will change :/

I really expected there to be more rare drops from NM's that could be crafted into excellent equipment. Before materia, I also expected that crafters would be able to enhance all equipment.
I'm pretty unhappy with the current situation, there should be crafted gear, dropped gear, and the ability to use crafting to enhance both. I also want some rare equipment to stay untradeable but still be enhance able. There must be some middle ground that keeps both crafters and NM hunters happy...
Honestly I'd prefer to see crafted gear being the means of getting NM/Primal/Dungeon gear. You need to use something at cap in order to beat the end-game content and get the real good gear. This means that there's still a demand for crafted items at cap, in addition to materia. That stuff should be rare and amazing, at least for specific situations. So far the only way that some NM/Primal/Dungeon gear is better than crafted gear is that it gives bonuses you can't get through materia on that piece or at all.
Edit: That or of course do like the older top NMs and drop items used to craft amazing gear.
Ok in response to OP, id like to point out that all of those HNMs are a year old and thus outdated at this point.
What i personaly think is...we need NEW HNMs!(ones that roam the world, not stronghold ones)

NM's, Raids, all endgame content:
Useless.
Why?
Crafting.
SE, making content just to make it useless. Shooting themselves in their own foot.
There are 2 options for successful game progression:
Make items and fights and contents scalable/unique.
or
Make content at a pace where new content replaces old content in a timely manner making scalable content a non issue.
SE is doing none of the above. If new content doesn't replace old content at a pace to keep players from being bored and leaving, or making items and fights "scale" or "last longer" they are wasting man hours making content that is useless a month later with nothing to replace it for 5 months.
11 did this right, old gear was "unique" enough that it had a purpose in situations much later in the development of the game. Items with stats not commonly found on them from RELEASE made them useful and scalable. After YEARS, items were still good situationally. People would still go back and do that old content to get those items.
Currently there is nothing of the sort in FFXIV. Old content is useless. Wasting development time is all they are doing. They cant produce new content fast enough to do the "world of warcraft" development style where everything is outdated and a huge chunk of content is released every few months.
They should either ramp up development of new content to replace old content or start making items more unique stat-wise to "last longer" developmentally.

Year Old content should not be thrown away it should be expanded apon. More things that go outdated the less content the game has. Remove old content from a game or making it worthless is not a good thing to do.
Should of done something like this.
Goldsmithing Synth Rank 57
x1 Aoelian Scimitar (Goblin NM)
x1 Bandit's Diamond (From Buffalo faction Humaniod Boss)
x1 Ifrit's Horn (Ifrit)
x1 Electrum Ingot (Wards)
= x1 Jeweled Scimitar
Dmg: 96
Delay: 2.7
Meldable
Block + 7
Dex + 7
Keeps 3 forms of content valid in the game at once. Crafting is involved. Materia is involved. The weapon is situationaly better (the dps on that is low but it increases blocks)
While being outdated sure is the reason why the item isn't as good, it just doesn't make sense. The content is outdated, but the gear IS comparable to the new one. It's the same item type and level!
They added newer recipes? Sure, good thing. But should balance them out with the older ones too - specially when such an older recipe is harder to make. I would accept the "outdated" excuse if the new recipe also required rare materials, but it doesn't
This is what people wanted though. (Make XIV a standard MMORPG!) Once they get around to expanding the game rather than fixing it, we'll definitely see things balance itself out. right now it's overpowering because Materia can continue to grow, whereas dropped gear is still outdated in comparison.
Look at FFXI -- overtime the gap between crafted - augmented - dropped - upgraded gear closed and balanced around outdating older stuff (finally), but before they went the outdate route, everything had it's place because they created 3 categories:
-Sought After
-Side Grades
-Alternatives.
XIV has only Materia and Side-Grades currently.
The HNM weapons look cooer? lmao
