I agree 100%. Every time SE adds something they blast whatever they did (beforehand) into complete and utter redundancy.

This is what people wanted though. (Make XIV a standard MMORPG!) Once they get around to expanding the game rather than fixing it, we'll definitely see things balance itself out. right now it's overpowering because Materia can continue to grow, whereas dropped gear is still outdated in comparison.
Look at FFXI -- overtime the gap between crafted - augmented - dropped - upgraded gear closed and balanced around outdating older stuff (finally), but before they went the outdate route, everything had it's place because they created 3 categories:
-Sought After
-Side Grades
-Alternatives.
XIV has only Materia and Side-Grades currently.

Indeed, a standard MMORPG would do better than an XI-2, even though I've yet to see anyone ever say remake Vana`diel -- Generally just the ones who hate XI assume anything being used from XI would mean make a sequel, since said people don't know the difference between using what works and make it better/do your own spin of it (standard MMORPG) and learning from what you did and not throwing away the experience (learning from XI and making it better, not worse.)
Good try though.

What I find funniest about the XI-2 argument people make Jennestia, is that if they HAD just made this game XI-2 instead of what it was, it probably would have sold more and done better than what we have now.Indeed, a standard MMORPG would do better than an XI-2, even though I've yet to see anyone ever say remake Vana`diel -- Generally just the ones who hate XI assume anything being used from XI would mean make a sequel, since said people don't know the difference between using what works and make it better/do your own spin of it (standard MMORPG) and learning from what you did and not throwing away the experience (learning from XI and making it better, not worse.)

your right. But what we have now is a game in apha stage that is pay to play, so it wouldn't take much to sell more copys then people who are playing now. The question is, would it have sold more copys then 2.0 will when it releases.

That remains to be seen, but I certainly hope it does. I think there were many great ideas they could have taken from Xi but didn't, but I am glad they didnt just make a carbon copy of it. The drops from tough nms for example should be more like it was in XI, but adding something like that wouldnt make me feel like they are trying to turn this game into another XI. It would only mean they kept what works and threw out what doesn't.
This speaks more about your personal insecurities about XIV becoming an MMORPG you hate. Only an idiot would think a company using ideas from their previous game and expanding on it or making it better is a bad thing.
Any smart company would learn from their mistakes and used what worked, it worked for the gaming industry for 20+ years, why would it suddenly not work now? It worked for Bioware and people seem to be lapping up SWTOR.

Ding ding ding!
WINNAH!

The new gear didn't blast it away though materia did, green and blue items can't compete with 2 and 3 times materia pieces.
It's the biggest problem in the game for me at the moment, I don't want to play a game where the best gear is craftable.
