Current UI Issues

So, after having a stressful day, I logged in to sufder the UI glitch they keep putting notices up. This was beyond frustrating, and I need to have a healthy vent about this. I play multiple classes, have leveled a majority of my classes to 50, all with set macros including ones I use in my Free Company and Linkshell to notify people of different things. It took 3+ hours to restore the settings; I lost everything from game settings, Golden Saucer Card Lists, all my macros for my various classes, my gear set lists, my hot bar settings - everything. Not ONE setting saved. It was like I had completely reinstalled.

My boyfriend has similar settings to mine, and he tried sending me his backup and it didn’t work whatsoever. We had to manually fix everything all night, taking away valuable playtime we could have spent together. Needless to say, it was beyond frustrating, and though I keep compulsively doing backups, I have little faith backups actually work since my BF’s backup from his PC did nothing.

What was everyone doing when they suffered the UI glitch? I suffered the glitch after I had opened up Steam and had added FF14 as a non-steam game to the list. I wonder if overlays have something to do with it? Just a theory that cannot be proven without more details. What do you guys think? A coincidence? Or could Steam’s overlay be to blame?

The notice that you mentioned, which has been up for a while now, actually tells you how to prevent it.

"*Even if you are unaffected by UI settings and display issues at this time, there is a possibility that the issue may occur before it is addressed. In order to prevent further cases and apply the safest method, we ask that you open the HUD Layout settings as early as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience this may be."

As for the backup thing, there's also a way of copying the UI of someone else by copying the right files from the XIV folder.
