Shinryu EX appreciation thread

Thank you SE for this primal fight. It's easily the Thordan EX of Stormblood (but not as hard thankfully!), an elegant dance of violence and tension. Everything about it is so epic from the music to the scripted events, plus I can see the developers were trying out some new ideas here and there. Even after so many runs, beating him still feels like an accomplishment.

After the indolence of the Warring Triad primals, fighting Shinryu really forces you to think and learn and polish your skills up, and I'm a better tank (and Monk!) for it.

I didn't bother with it. Reward wasn't worth the time investment to learn/clear it.

I'd love the fight... if I could ever reliably get past phase 1. People please the icicles happen at the exact same time every single time, this is nothing new, stop getting hit. Oh you didn't stack for Hypernova and you're dead.

Oh what's that I was targetted and got hit by Earth Breath? Let me not get a single heal until I end up dying to Ice Storm.

I still haven't gotten my damn clear.

I have a bunch of hotkeyed macros to cue mechanics people forget all the time. I still get a wipe 2 out of 3 runs with RF Pugs but sometimes you just get that golden run when everyone knows exactly what to do and the fight is just pure bliss.

Excellent first phase, however I found the fight leaves more than a little to be desired by the end. It's essentially a repeat of phase one, followed by a burn from 23%. They also need to include accessories as weapons just don't hold the same value nowadays.

Personally, I found Sephirot better overall, and Sophia very close. She's just a bit too easy. Zurvan can bugger right off.

I've enjoyed it the few times I've done it. I agree it just has a very epic feel to it. I don't think I'd ever fully pug it though, at least not for a while. It certainly isn't something I could see myself carrying a weaker coheal on, not with all the very specific mechanics.

I hate this fight and I personally think it’s overtuned for its place in progression. For context, I’ve already cleared delta 1-3 and doing prog on neo so I don’t actually need the shinryu weapons.

I already have better so it’s not like I’m asking for nerfs because I need the weapons and I don’t want them as I think they’re atrocious. But as is, I believe the fight is overtuned for the rewards it gives, its way harder than Hali and drops worse stuff. I haven’t cleared shinryu yet but I’ll probabky skip it until next tier or unsynched level 80.

This is my only gripe about it. If a player already has v3s cleared and their weapon then Shinryu Ex is just irrelevant aside from simply getting a clear to check it off the list.

It's a great fight. The first times you clear it it's very tense, but once you learn everything it's kind of relaxing.
