Discord "Rich Presence" and FF14

Today, when I launched Discord, I was greeted with the news on its new update, titled "Rich Presence". Though I am not particularly tech-literate (perhaps someone can clarify this more for everyone), it seems to me that, according to the patch, this tool allows Discord users to use Discord in conjunction with games whose developers have allowed Discord to be compatible with their games to create/join parties, spectate matches, etc, in the target game, all via Discord. Then the player can launch the game (or even have the game auto-launched for them), and properly join up. If I'm not understanding the tool right, someone please correct me.

As the leader of a Discord-based guild, this tool looks very useful. Right now, I am using a events channel to schedule events, and members can react with custom FF14 emoji representing job icons to reserve a spot on the event. With this new tool, however, it sounds like we could actually do this more officially, with a lot less workaround.

It does sound good, however I do wonder how many games will implement this. It will require devs to specifically implement the SDK in their games, so it may be more complex to do than it sounds.

The way i read it was that DEvs could implemetn as much ro as litle as they want with their game. So server, location, level, job could all be supplied to discord.

I do doubt about "auto-launch" the game though, in XIV's case it'll require a login using the separate launcher, then the main menu and character selection all before being able to use the party system, which would make using the discord hook a little trickier. Games that aren't as multi-tiered might be able to auto-launch though.

I literally just loaded up my Discord and was greeted with the same video. For those interested, we're talking about... This one: Discord Now Supports Rich Presence.

While i think that the interface from FFXIV might not be particularly suitable for the "Join parties" and "Spectate" features, that doesn't mean that it would not be a wonderful addition to the Party Finder, Raid Finder, PvP Duels, Feast, Frontline and Spectating matches. I'd certainly want to ask the FFXIV team to look into it.

Also, the "Nutrition cards" will be interesting for a wide group of players. Gotta crunch that Final Coil of Bahamut cookie and add it to the list. (^_~ )-b /thumbsup

I think this is an absolutely fantastic feature, I'd love to see FFXIV add support for rich presence in Discord! It would make coordinating with members who aren't always in-game much easier.

You should have probably tagged this with [Suggestion] or something. I think it wouldn't be as hard as we think with the supplied API, it's more just on SE to decide how far this could go. The least they could do is give location in-game, server, and if you're up on PF or queued up for a duty.
