Where to start gearing up after buying Skip Story from Mogstation?

Just returned since ARR days. I bought the story skip because I wanted to play RDM right away. So I've unlocked RDM and quest gave half set of iLv 115 white gear (no accessories).

Where should I start gearing up from as RDM lv 50? Back then in ARR we exchanged a lot of gear in Mor Dhona. Is it still the case? I got some tome of poetics from daily roulettes. Which ilvl gear should I exchange them with?

Do you even need a story skip to get RDM?
Thought it was available to any level 50 character that owns Stormblood.

You can buy level 50+ normal vendor gear from foundation, I can't remember the ilvl of those but they aren't as good as ironworks but should come close. If anything, the mb is your best bet.

Your better off crafting or doing dungeon gear. You can do tome gear or just normal if you want to waste gill from MB. As long as you have a level 50 job and own SB you should have had access to it. As Canade metioned.

Interesting that you skip for RDM, I think you dont actually need to skip ARR storyline to unlock the class (I might be wrong).

Assuming you skipped ARR storyline, I believe you just started the HW storyline, there are few options on hand:
1. Open up the armor coffer you received from RDM quest (ilvl 115).
2. Buy Ironworks iLvl 120 (if you have enough Poetics), if not I would suggest stick with armor coffer item.
3. Upgrade to Shire Gear ilvl 260 once you hit Idyllshire in Dravania (HW area).

I was initially interested in machinist. Had asked about it and was told by others I needed to complete 101 story quests to unlock it since I haven't played since ARR. Then decided I'd like to play RDM instead so I just assumed I had to complete those 101 quests + all of heavensward story too. That sounded way too long before I could play RDM.

All righty thanks for all the advice. I story skipped so I think I remember seeing I have teleport access to Dravania region. I'll just use the free ilvl 115 RDM quest gear and save up for ilvl 260 Shire set. Also doing potd since I hear we can get ilvl 260 weapon out of it. Btw, I also got 10 silver chocobo feather from purchasing story skip. What should I use them for?

Get I level 120 - level 50 ironworks gear and weapon from npcs, Auriana and Aelina in Mor Dhona using Poetics. Upgrade it to 130 by buying the Carboncoat, Carbontwine, Enrcypted tomestones from the same npc. Take the items to Drake at North Shroud (30, 20) Hyrstmill to upgrade them to I level 130.

The I130 Ironworks set with weapon will actually last you a pretty long time towards level 60 until you can get better dungeon gear or crafted gear or npc gear.

To get poetics do any level 50 duty or spam palace of the dead.

Once you are 60 get Shire/scripture gear and weapon in Idyllshire with poetics and augment it to I270 using poetics at NPC Hismena and Bertana. Meld it up with appropriate materia. Weapon augments with Rowena tokens of scripture and 1 microtomestone. All available at Hismena and Bertana.

Like Ironworks, I 270 Augmented Shire/Scripture gear and Wep will last you a good long time towards about level 65 but if you want to break off before that, you can use dungeon gear or crafted gear.

Rinse repeat at level 70 only the place is Rhalgr's Reach and the currency is Tomestones of Verity I310 Ala Mhigan gear and Tomestones of Creation for I330 Lost Allagan gear which are earned in level 70 duties. Upgrade to I340 via Savage or Raids or Hunts.

It's true for Machinist because the you start the class quest in Foundation, Coerthas. As for RDM is at Thanalan.. On the other hand, you can quickly start the SB story line

I agree, I think the 5ilvl upgrade doesn't worth. I don't suggest the POTD weapon (takes a lot of time), buy the Shire weapon with Poetics.

As for now, the Silver Feather can be used for Shire & Ironworks Gears. If you need the Shire ASAP you can use them there, otherwise save it up for something in the future. Looking at your current lvl, I would keep the Silver and run daily roulette for Poetics, because Shire gear is equipable at lvl 60.
