For the current pvp, I'm content to accept it's for fairness or competition, for lore sake. GC based factions can still participate but I do want to have some tribe/group/mercenaries factions. Here's an idea, how about we have to leave our GC if we want to join a faction in the pvp area? That also can explain we have to use subset of our skills since we're not tied to lore.
On topic of gang-ing up, pvp is literally what it is. Whether it's factioned or single fights, bigger number will take advantage of weaker number. Bullying out of social reason though is nothing to do with pvp, just mob mentality. That's still a problem in Hunts, don't think it will be different in pvp.

My guess is it's to prevent players from valuing classes based on PVP performance. Hypothetical example, preferring to run duties with magic classes over melee DPS because they outperform melee in PVP. And we know something like that is BS so why create the stigma in the first place?

You asked why I felt an open-world PVP area would be bad. I answered. You’re not entitled to me agreeing with you, and after talking to my guild and alliance, they all felt such an area would do exactly as I said.

We’re all advocating for the type of game we want to see. Mine just happens to clash with yours. I like a story driven game, where people can come together as a community, and defeat challenges based on a PVE format. I want to work together. [snip] You’re not gonna like what I say, but I’m gonna say it regardless because I want Square Enix to hear the other side.
I personally don't enjoy pvp and really haven't read every single suggestion here but I think the devs could actually implement something like this for everyone to be moderately happy about.
Instances.
Just like how the new zones used have instances 1, 2, 3, etc when it's crowded, why not have the chance to zone in for pvp or non-pvp at certain areas. For example, you can go into instance 1, 2, or pvp. So basically, players can zone into the Lochs but one chooses instance 1 while the other chooses pvp. It doesn't interfere with anyone's gameplay that way.
Also, to keep everyone's anonymity (and avoid harassment), everyone you run into in those zones will just show up the same as their job (say, yell, and player search disabled of course). Say you zone into the pvp Lochs, you won't see Joe Schmoe, -Heart of the Party- you will see "Ninja".
The best part about all this? Sleep and Repose actually becomes useful.

I actually like THiS - it feels very fair and would prevent a lot of harassment. It would also be optional and wouldn’t lock anyone out of potentially new storyline content. A PVP instance or server - I can get behind that. I won’t be locked out of Beast Tribe or Faction wuests just because I’d rather not partake in PVP, as for the reasons I listed. I had some fun PVPIng in the past, but I just have no tolerance for the stuff that happens when people get too obsessed with winning or losing in these competitions. This is my preference.Just like how the new zones used have instances 1, 2, 3, etc when it's crowded, why not have the chance to zone in for pvp or non-pvp at certain areas. And I’m not saying i’m adverse to PVPers getting content. I just don’t want to be locked out of anything storywise.

Look man I just wanna rp Haseo and I can't do that when I can't PKK.
Just so we're clear, I'm not trying to guilt anyone into silence. But having seen the effect that non-PvPers have had - quite largely - on PvP modes in this game, I'm pretty concerned AS someone who enjoys it.
I'm concerned when people will avoid Seal Rock (Seize) for 2 years, calling it bad and toxic, then ask for the exact same thing in the form of the Nadaam. I'm concerned when people complain PvP - with the same hotbars they use without issue in PvE - has "too many buttons", and sweeping changes are made so that all jobs have 9 buttons and 2 interchageable PvP skills to work with, especially when not every job can just simply fit that template. I'm concerned when people offer annecdotal evidence of widespread toxic behavior and attitudes and it becomes an accepted fact without proof, even more so when a vital function of a team-based competitive mode becomes restricted for it, despite near unanimous negative feedback from the community it effects. Yes, I'm talking about the Feast's chat restriction.
Where's the chat restriction for the people that mouth off to others in PvE instances? Where's the chat ban for the people that openly attack Mentors whether they do the right thing or not? Where's the chat ban for all the PvE infractions? Don't act like it doesn't happen. The proof is all over the rest of the forum.
You talk about not wanting things that ruin the community feel of the game. . . Well guess what? PvPers are part of that community too. We're the part that gets shunned, ignored, dismissed, and avoided UNLESS somehow people that won't bother with it otherwise can get something out of it. We're the part that gets the least, yet told what little we get "wastes time and development they can put into other things". Here's a history lesson: Remember 4.06a? Jobs didn't get those balance changes before the Feast Season 5 started because they were more focused on balancing Omega Savage. And SE admitted this. But they started season 5 anyways. Would it be okay if things happened the other way around? And yet we're supposed to just accept that happening like it's okay because "it's only PvP"? THAT, as someone said, is entitlement.
You talk about not wanting things that ruin the community feel of the game, yet PvPers have had their community, with as little as it has or gets, thoroughly ruined up to this point, and that's considered okay, as long as it doesn't ruin "your" community? Please.

I don’t think the issues in PVE are equivlent to those in PVP. In PVE, I rarely run into toxic players. In PVP, it is a whole different story. I’ve been playing MMOs since I was a kid. I’m 25 now, and it is extremely telling SE would remove chat from a competitive thing. Or that the change was necessary. It tells me what I need to know.

And how much did you play the Feast? How much did you see any toxicity there? I mean, I can say I rarely run into toxic players in both PvP and PvE, but then we begin to trade annecdotal evidence.
Tell me how much that change helped toxicity with all the "Nice Job!" spam? Tell me how that change helped with toxicity when people can no longer communicate any important information in a match if it doesn't fall under any of the quick chat macros, and lose as a result for it? Tell me how that magically fixes any and all instances of player toxicity in PvP? Tell me how not having it in PvE fixes it there? Tell me how much it would help if they DID restrict chat in PvE because of the few cases of toxic players. Oh please, do tell me what you perhaps know there that I don't. Be sure to back it up with your actual experience and not just annecdotal evidence.
