We’re all advocating for the type of game we want to see. Mine just happens to clash with yours. I like a story driven game, where people can come together as a community, and defeat challenges based on a PVE format. I want to work together, something I don’t often see in this dog-eat-dog world. In my experience, competition can bring out a lot of negative emotions such as anger, fear, ans frustration. Is it fun to overcome that for people? Sure is. But I came to this game because it had a lot more inclusive PVE fights and a mentor system that rewarded helping others, and that’s the game I want it to stay.

So yes, I’m going to argue against this suggestion of an Open World PVP. I think ESports is cool, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t want that community here. Look at other Esport games and the prominence of swatting (recent news: innocent victim got shot due to a wrong address given), the screaming of profanities and racist slurs in competitve gaming (Pewdiepie), and the overall just toxic community that comes with winning at all costs. I have friends who play Overwatch, but because they want fair competitive play without this behavior, they get treated like trash. “I just want to play the character/class I want to,” is not allowed because people want the fastest way to the top. So, you have issues with people in random matches pushing for the META. And we already have people doing that in this game with parsers, another controversial topic.

In other words, it was hard finding a game like this one without that community and I’m gonna fight like hell to protect the investment I made in this game to avoid those others. You’re not gonna like what I say; but I’m gonna say it regardless because I want Square Enix to hear the other side of people who do not want this.

So, sure, go for Open PVP if you want, but if it has elements that attract people from those other communities, I’m not going to be for it. Because I like the fair, team-based PVP we have now where things are fair and restricted.

Some of these ideas are really good. I can see myself enjoying it. Im sure glam and and mounts would be great. Nodes for pvp food and furniture's would be inviting. I like how the people's of the Azime Steppe fight for the throne, we could have this sort of thing going on. The adventures would have to pick a tribe. This could be so fun.

Looks like when its all said and done we can agree on a zone put off to the side that is pvp only is acceptable as long as it does not gate pve content and you can not fumble into it. With that said. Should we start talking about Safe Zones? Like small villages or tele spots. Lets get this breakthrough with well thought out ideas to Yoshi!

There were 2 in-depth posts on the previous page with ideas (one of which was my own, I admit, so maybe I'm biased), so why not start with those?

Yeah your post was really well said and i think it could work. I like how there is a zone wide event. Thats important. I wish i could beta test it on a alt. Maybe they should allow a pvp test server or zone soon.

I hate PvP myself, but support this idea with some provisos:
    1. Make rewards similar to current PvP rewards (I don't mean in terms of looks, I mean types, Glamours, Mounts, Minions, etc, but with all new designs. Nothing PvE though)
    2. Don't gate main scenario or Mentor roulette duties with it (perhaps some PvP-PvE hybrid duties could be added though?)
    3. Add a warning when you try to enter the zone (this way someone doesn't accidentally stumble on in and get creamed, you KNOW what you're getting into). If you say no ya don't wanna enter, your character turns around and leaves.

Why do I support it? Variety is always good, even if it's something I won't enjoy.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

The thing here is that adapting to an issue is unnecessary when you can solve it instead. And I find talking solutions worlds more interesting and relevant to an issue than talking adaption, which you seem to mistake for refusing to adapt.

None of that has anything to do with compromises. The compromise on the topic lies in the fact that the open world PvP is to be optional, the only thing worth discussing afterwards are the modalities of "optional".
    The important questions are:
    1) What does optional entail?
    2) What measures are needed to make it optional?
    3) How do you stimulate participation in an entirely optional activity without compromising its optional status?
What is the "issue" in this context? Just curious.

And I'm willing to accept your idea of compromise here (see what I did lol, jk).

1: Not required to reach endgame.
2: Not much really. It could be hidden behind a quest, that is explained what it is before you accept and in turn, when completed, brings up active help that further explains what it is and makes it absolutely clear what rewards you get for participating. The quest itself does not require you to enter the zone. And you can't enter the zone before quest is complete. Even when inside the zone, you'll have to turn on your PvP flag to even participate.
3: 1 Example would be to include it in a roulette for endgame currency, but PvE peeps wouldn't like that I reckon. Also weekly challenge if peeps are up for that. Personally it would probably be part of my endgame, you know, play for the sake of playing; no incentive required if it succeeds, as playing the game in itself should, imo, be the incentive. But, yeah, I know, people like to grind, and to be honest, I don't see SE implementing this in the foreseeable future as they would most likely just create a dead zone.

Hmmm, that "community" is most likely here already. I can't imagine OW PvP being a magnet to that "community" more than, lets say, feast. There will always be a-holes around, even if you make the sweetest, most adorable puppy-like mmo, some a-holes will find their way there. Well, unless you go total Nazi and ban all chat and emotes.

If we focus only on what can go wrong, we'd never get anywhere. That's not to say planning for dealing with undesirable factors isn't necessary, but a certain degree of cynicism and worry needs to be set aside in order to go for it and possibly make it a reality.
