    Open world PvP Zone

Edit: In the recent Q&A during the NA Fan Fest 2018, Yoshi-P stated that they have been experimenting with PvP servers where different GCs could engage in open world PvP. They said they had no plans for this now, however they told people who wanted this to be vocal about it. With the recent announcements of being able to jump worlds, one PvP world per DC would be something I want.

    ------------------------------------------------------------

I love open world PvP. I remember Yoshi-P having thoughts about PvP servers, if there is enough demand for it.

... but let's say that never happens. How am I going to get my open world PvP fix?

Well, give us an open world PvP zone. No instance, just a regular zone, but with PvP. I think it could be fun. A couple of ideas:

    1. Have 2 (or maybe more) factions that you can side with (I'd be fine if it was GC based even). You can change, but not so often.
    2. People can attack any player of another faction at any given time.
    3. No flying in the zone.
    4. Have safe zones (like underwater zones that you can jump in and hide in, and sanctuaries that cowards can run to mid-fight).
    5. If you party up, you will not be able to attack each other regardless of faction. Easy way to make teams on the fly if you want to.
    6. What does SE love? Fates! Have PvP fates with special rewards, and Wolf Marks as rewards as well (and as ppl have suggested for a long while now = make us be able to buy useful stuff with wolf marks). You can screw people over doing those fates as well. There could also be escort fates etc for specific factions where one has to protect a cargo from the other team, or a FATE like the protect the gate one in South Shroud.
    7. PVP Beast tribes! This could work as the factions even, doing PvP objectives to gain reputation with the beast tribe.
    8. Have certain parts of the zone open up the more you gain ranks or the more you PvP.
    9. Have a hub with PvP mini games, in-game tournament, in-game duel organizer, arena.
    10. Have certain part of the zone be accessible only when your faction has claimed it. If we want to be stupid, put a rare gathering node in that area where you can for instance gather a new kind of map, Wolf Map, so it keeps being competitive and worth doing.
    11. Wolf map. Just maps with gil, wolf marks, new minions and mats etc. Portal that can lead to the "Grand Arena", a King of the Hill like Aquapolis where you climb to get to the master of the Grand Arena. I tried putting a PvP twist on it but couldn't think of any except for that your party can get killed when spawning a map, and the party that killed you can steal the portal. And of course, inside the portal you only have access to your pvp skills and you have to coordinate. Think of the feast but vs PvE "players" (yes, we have Shatter for PvE, but this is just a map).

All of this can give experience as well of course. More than enough here already to make it more fun than a regular zone. If that's not enough to bring people there (who want to try out pvp but are scared of feast and are bored of FL), add Hunts that give Seals and Wolf Marks, and as mentioned, the stupid idea of gathering points. Or you know... just add tomes and materia.

This sounds like a great idea. Now imagine for the pvp zone, we get a large heavily forested map with many layers of elevation, winding roads that lead below ground etc and a general layout of a maze. Now throw a mist/fog ontop and restrict view ranges to roughly 20-30 yalms through occasional weather and BAM. Intense pvp zone. To add to the pvp fates, it be cool if we have the dominating party or person be marked as gone rogue, allowing them to attack anyone and everyone else would be allowed to hunt them down for extra rewards. The longer they're alive, the more rewards they get.

I’m really not behind something like this. I like that FF14 feels less competitive than other games. Overwatch and Archeage are fun in their own right, but people get so dang competative in open-world PVP if sucks all the fun out of it. Nobody laughs if they lose - they get super angry and toxic.

I’d hate to be locked out of Beast Tribe quest in an entire new area just cause I’m not interested in another environment where players forget about having fun and make ofhers miserable :/

It doesn't have to be competitive PvP, we have the Feast for that. And I think there are plenty of people, who find PvP fun, that would find this fun as well. Just like for example, playing tennis, isn't about making the other tennis player feel miserable, PvP doesn't have to be about that either.

Crafters have their own Best Tribe quest, everyone doesn't do crafting. Why can't PvPers have some fun? Everything doesn't have to be for everyone.

If you want open world PvP, the closest you'll get to that is the duelling circle at the Wolves' Den - Yoshi does not support fully open world PvP because he does not want new players or casual players to be harassed by high level players just wanting to gank them for no reason. Besides, PvP period is not FFXIV's primary focus, it's side content rather than the game's whole point. FFXIV is primarily PvE focused, and always will be - open world PvP does not work with that.

The biggest problem is the mindset that PvP is "side content" in this game. So long as SE and players think that way, it will never reach its full potential.

That said, the game currently just wouldn't be open world PvP friendly. If they were to make a zone for that, it likely wouldn't have gathering points or any noteworthy locations. Hunts and FATES would just be twice as annoying, and largely ignored (because who's going to gather up at a location they know other players will be waiting?), and we can't even get players in this game to try instanced PvP. An open world zone would just be largely avoided.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but with the way things are, it's not yet a very practical one.

Then those players don't have to go to the zone. I'm talking about one zone specifically built for PvP. There wouldn't be any "higher level players" cause it would work as it does in FL and Feast now. Unless you're talking about skill but that can be said about any PvP content.

As for the argument that PvP aint XIVs primary focus, I agree, and there is a lot more PvE content than PvP. That's why this PvP zone would be something nice for the PvPers.

If you want something built around PVP, why not play another game? The majority of players like the fact PVP is a side thing that doesn’t interrupt or isolate people from the larger story as a whole. Including fates and beast tribe quests in a PVP only area just will make things feel more elitist and there would be pressure to join such a thing.

PVP - with people who love camping spawn points and fates just to be jerks - breeds a toxic community with people being resentful of each other. Overwatch is proof that it breeds a toxic community. I love FF14 because it avoids that.

If they do this, they need to keep that area in some far off corner.

Imagine trying to get somewhere and the main road is a death zone because you can't get through without being turned into swiss cheese.
