I actually have to level up Conjurer to unlock Paladin when it comes out. Grinding up a job I really didn't even want to play. I never been the level up a whole much of jobs / have a bunch of alts in a MMO type of person. I rather just level 1 up and be good at that.

If you look at almost any modern MMO you level up by solo questing or dugenons which have some kind of queue system to get in. Grinding countless mobs is not good game design and isn't popular with most people these days. The endless grinding is probably one of the reasons FFXIV lacks players.

Thats because in most MMOs you can't be more than 1 thing on 1 character... I think they are trying to get people to embrace that whole "be every class" concept

I think its viable. See some will want to quest to the cap. Grinding should be faster than questing though, maybe not per hour but by the fact that quests are either limited or on a timer.

The grind is not bad as long as the end destination is highly desirable.

If every review site, personal reviewer, blogger and gaming friend you knew all said this big boss was by far the best (And most fun) thing they'd ever seen in video gaming history but to fight it you had to grind for like 4 months to get to be able to fight it... then people wouldn't mind the grind at all because the end justified the means

Gladiator as a req for White Mage? Pugilist as a req for Black Mage? What are SE smoking? I would have thought CNJ30/THM15 would have been a better fit, and THM30/CNJ15 for BLM.

I don't see this as like even a new job but just an expansion on the old ones. A series of quests that give you 5 new abilities, and some job specific armor and weapon. Even with the 5 new abilities each of the jobs get they will probably play pretty much the same they do now.

It kind of reminds me of the Dual-class system in AD&D (2nd Ed... yes I am old, I remmember it before the 'Advanced' part pre 1st eddition. ^.^)

The key is to know the terminology.
Classes are the ones you know of old. Conj, Pug, etc.
Jobs tho are dual classes. Combined classes... White Mage, etc. Knowing that makes the rest more clear.

(though I'd love to see 'class stones' too. To make occupation switching easier!)

    Greetings!

There have been some questions on the Japanese side regarding jobs, so I’d like to relay what was answered.

To change jobs, just equipping the job specific weapon will not do the “job” so to speak (heh heh...sorry). You will need to equip the appropriate soul crystal. There was also a comment about whether we could add an icon to the console tray as a shortcut for job changes; however, considering 2.0’s UI and system specifications we will not be adding this.

Help text for items will also be displayed in the below manner to show which classes and jobs can equip certain items:

    [Required] Gladiator Marauder Paladin Warrior

Previously existing items will also have their help text edited to account for jobs.

Finally, there was one last question about whether there would be content that requires everyone to play as jobs, but there are no plans for content where you could not take on the challenge if you are not playing as a job.

job specific weapon != af weapon

he means theres no system to automatically be a PLD by equipping a sword without a job stone.
