I hope this catches the Dev's attention as well for posting new information.Nice discussion going on here guys. Don't hesitate to include some questions you may have as well and I don't mind updating the OP.
@ Velhart
Thanks for the input man.
@TheVedis
Yea, but the point is mainly discussion on the forums really. Also a nice, convenient thread for the reps to drop info on when they feel like sharing.
White knights, take a chill pill. This is a good thread. I'd like to see more info as well.

Q: Will they be releasing any new materia during 1.21? (e.g. Job specific materia, trait enhancing materia, anything new at all?)
*I've seen a few pieces of materia on other sites that aren't in the game currently. Might make some of the current materia 'obsolete' and I'd hate to spend what little money I have only to need replacements later. *
I knew i forgot something! I saw those materia as well that are not in game yet. Curious myself on the subject, and while I don't think it will be the case it's still worth asking if there may be job-specific materia.Gj Noctis.

I plan to update and reorganize the OP with questions in categories if there's a lot of input. Keep them coming guys!
Also give the OP a like if you want this topic to get more activity and attention quicker.
I actually just want more medals because I'm an attention whore.
My biggest question which you have touched on is how do we change to PLD from GLD, is it down to the weapon we equip or is there a sub menu where we select it? If its another range of weapons that are going to have to be added that make them specific to PLD and not GLD and the same for every other class. I can foresee the retainer search system becoming every more messy if they go about it this way, of course they could make it that all class weapons are rare/ex so the retainers never have to deal with them.

The preview Yoshi gave was the "Job Stone" an item you would equip to transform into that job. I can see another slot being added to our equipment screen (similar to arrow / throwing weapon slot) that acts as a "stone holder" or "rune slot". Once you have acquired your job stone you can just equip / un-equip via the equipment screen > rune slot.
That's the way I have it envisioned in my head. I believe this is a logical assumption since we manage all our class changes via the equipment screen (weapon slot).
This is my line of thinking. heck they may not even have to add any equipment slots. The "Pack" slot to my knowledge is pretty much useless. some one correct me if i am wrong though. The preview Yoshi gave was the "Job Stone" an item you would equip to transform into that job. As far as cross classed ability it has been my theory that the method they will use to "Reduce" the amount useable will be simply to cut the allowed amount down to 5 at 50. those slots being taken up by the job stuff. The only question remaining at that point would they impose further restrictions on what skills you would be able to slot in or not.
The more i think about it the more these "Job stones" become a very elegant method of doing what they want.
The question how would a paladin have more defense then a gladiator becomes blindingly obvious. When you postulate that said stones would do the stat modifications by the simple act of equipping them. The pld stone could simply have +x% mp, -x% hp, +x% def, +x% h.pot for example.

Would be cool if they brought back what AF did in XI. Like some armor would enhance specific abilities/spells. Like equipping WHM AF2 body would give Regen an extra HP tick and Auto-Refresh.
I'm still a bit in a the dark at how exactly is the switching from class to job going to go. I think it would be cool if crafters could make JSE (Not the official colors). Something along the lines of just lvl up gear until you can get your AF I suppose...

This is just my conjecture but I think switching to Jobs will be like advanced classes in other MMOs, or (lol) evolution in Pokemon, basically you advance your current class into a job, like Lancer > Dragoon, and that's it, your Lancer is permanently a dragoon without a way of switching it back to Lancer. on the other hand it might be possible that each job will have its own unique weapon so that each job will essentially be a new class, though it might make an already cluttered system even more convoluted.
