    Dragoon Lore Question

Is there any given reason as to why Dragoons can jettison themselves off to their home planet with very little effort? Or why they can survive falling from heights that would shatter your legs?

Even if the only answer you can give me is just headcanon based implications, I'd be fine with that. Would prefer an actual answer though.

Just spitballing this, (a very broad spitball), but for this game I think it has something to do with Soul of the Dragoon. It imbues the bearer with dragon-like abilities. As for the earlier games, (IV, Tactics, etc.), I couldn't say. Low planetary gravity maybe? IDK

It's those shoes that have springs in the sole. Cannonically a dragoon is always wearing those.

But seriously, i figure that the soul crystal allows you something like limited manipulation of air-aspected aether to enable you to leap big distances and land with safety. This isn't based in anything around the dragoon questline just something that makes kinda sense to me based on the setting.

It's either magic, or the bodies of Hydaelyn's inhabitants are just much more durable than our weak Earth bodies. Various characters in in-game cutscenes are shown to be jumping from great heights, landing on their feet, and being perfectly fine. Off the top of my head, this happens with the WoL in the level 50 NIN quest, with the Miqo'te girl in one of the Amalj'aa storyline quests, and with the Scions when we confront Arbert and his gang for the first time.

The simplest answer would actually be magic. All of the Eorzean disciplines, whether jobs or classes, incorporate some element of Aetherial manipulation into them. Even the base classes like archer have clear evidence of this with attacks like windbite. Granted, some of them much more obviously utilize arcane powers, like the Dark Knights or the Ninjas, but even the Machinist is based on the manipulation of personal aether. It's part of why the Eorzeans can field soldiers powerful enough to deal with magitek armies, giant monsters and more. It follows to reason that there is an element of aetherial manipulation with the arts of the Dragoon as well, which helps them jump into the air. Also, the game, like many Japanese works of fiction, seems to be based on the power of the self more highly, where one can break human limits through enough training and determination. Given the context of Eorzea, this might involve magic itself.

No...its because of hildebrand (sp?) If he can do it..so can dragoons. *Strikes gentlemanly pose* Ok ill leave now.
But seriously - Id say the soul crystal has a great deal to do with that - much like why Black Mages can be incredibility destructive with spells like foul.

Then again if you play through HW there are plenty of DRG, the soul of the DRG is more for teh Azure Dragoon, so it may be more of the type of training. Even in past games DRG story lines have mostly reflected training since the original DRG that gave some back ground on it. Kain.

Just a little nitpick but the original FF DRG was not Kain at all - the Job had it's origins earlier than that. The very first DRG in the FF series was Ricard Highwind in FFII (the Famicom FFII, not the US renumbered FFIV). Kain did popularize the Job though and became the 'archetypal' DRG in the series (even though he did owe a lot to his predecessor - they shared the same surname for one).

As for the FFXIV version, it should be noted that there is two variations on the DRG Job as it stands, the Order of the Knights Dragoon who are basically Ishgard's version of LNCs, with specialized training for fighting dragons (hence the Jump attacks), and the the Azure Dragoon who is one specific Knight Dragoon that ends up chosen by the Eye of Nidhogg and which the Eye confers special powers upon, thus the Azure DRG serves as Ishgard's 'champion' (much like the Warrior of Light serves as Hydaelyn's champion).

As for how they can jump so high, it can easily be covered lore-wise by wind-aetherial enhanced training that allows them to scale great heights) but really, it can also just as easily be handwaved away as 'magic'.
