Terrible analogies aside, you can have server issues and still be able to play. I also don't have comcast so that point is moot . You're seriously expecting me to believe that sudden latency and disconnect issues that are happening to multiple people in the same instance when it doesn't happen in any other game or online application is somehow related to a issue with my ISP? Excuse me for being on the skeptical side and not believing all these armchair Network technicians. I'm not buying it for a second.

It may not be an issue with your ISP, but your ISP also has its own ISP, which it uses to connect you to the internet backbone. That ISP is the one having issues.

I've been in lots of instances with people who keep doing, and I've been the one who constantly dcs, it's yet to be a server issue since the move though.

I haven’t been lagging or dc completely much and even if I did it’s usually a one time issue or just a short one.

It sounds like you just want to blame SE. There were country wide net issues reported in the last 24 hours http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/06/tech...mcast-level-3/

Here's a picture of the super cool internet backbone that you get routed onto to get to FFXIV after the NA datacenter move. ...notice the lack of well...anything...in the middle of the US. If you aren't around the west coast, east coast, or south, you have to depend on your ISP to connect to their ISB backbone in a hub city to connect to one of NTT's networks to get over to San Jose, CA where the NA datacenter resides.

If we had more details on what other backbone networks looked like (and their availability), then I could help show you a visual map of where a connection goes. But chances are, unless you live in California or one of the hub cities, any major providor having an outage means you'll end up having a bad time getting connected to FFXIV. Services like Netflix or Amazon or Twitter can get around this because they're spread aout across multiple regions and also usually pay the peering costs to get beefier connections to important places. ISPs like to travel on their own stuff, after all.

If you have consistent connection trouble, the best thing to do is run a traceroute when it is happening and look for unusually high pings and packet loss along the way. Sometime multiple traces are needed to find the hop with the trouble. If it is on your home network or within your ISP's wide area network, you should call tech support and a good agent will know how to address the trouble. If the bad hop is further down the internet backbone, maybe your ISP can contact the responsible party. If the bad hop is on SE's end or is with their ISP, then contact SE support. Sometimes it takes more than one support request to the responsible party to get the connection fixed because unfortunately not all agents are as knowledgeable as others. For awhile people were posting traceroutes on here showing a bad hop in New York with SE's ISP. I don't know if that was fixed but it was discovered weeks ago so I hope it was.

Yeah, no. That's not how the Internet works. If that really was the true cause, those people wouldn't have been able to connect at all and the issue was resolved for com cast users within 90 minutes. I, at no point lost internet and it was only happening inside instances on only 1 game.
I have multiple credible sources of friends who have experience with these types of issues. I hate to break it to you but there are more signs pointing towards seever issues than ISP issues.

So you are point A. The server is point B. The other stuff you use the internet for is point C. You rother stuff does not have to travel through point B to reach point C. Therefore, there can be ISP issues for certain services, but not others. The internet does not have on and off.
Edit: its not worth arguing anymore. When the ISP's themselves, and other credible sources are point out the issues, and you refuse to accept it, then thats you.

I also studied this is school and worked in an ISPs backoffice for years. Seriously, for those of you with connection trouble, do some traceroutes. I wouldn't even look at a routing complaint unless the customer facing agents walked the customer through a traceroute to the endpoint with the trouble. I suspect SE would want evidence as well for a claim that there is an issue with a server or a data center. If a traceroute showed trouble with our routers or with the outside plant wiring, I'd dispatch or forward the trouble report to the appropriate people.
