Any plans to address severe server issues?

Its not just me.

Last night i was disconnected a few times, each time I ended up in a queue wait on a "preferred server" Malboro. This to me indicates many people were disconnecting as well. Not only that, I had 2 d/c party members in the extreme primal fight, as well as d/c's and full party lag in v3s while trying to help some people clear.



The game is becoming unplayable and i'm not seeing enough general posts from the community, when I know full and well people are d/c'ing like crazy. I have seen, and other people have seen others with the d'c symbol, and many chat channels discussing the random disconnections and severe lag.


So my question, is, does Square-Enix plan to say something about the issue, and or fix it? Or should I take my money back to Final Fantasy XI?

I thought the issue was my internet, but its completely clear now its not just me, and only getting worse with each passing day. Just tried to do v1s for the weekly, and 3 party members instantly started to d/c, with the fact that if a member d/c's we lose out on chests... makes the game completely unplayable. No thanks.




Edit: This has been ongoing for me for well over 1 month, so last nights "5 minute DDoS attack, doesnt really say its being addressed.

Been having recent bouts of severe, sudden lag before things are fine again. DC'ing now and then but that happens to me sometimes, though I oddly have only dc'd from the lag once... while doing absolutely nothing save for hanging out in Ul'dah.

Had both myself and the ninja in a Copperbell Leveling Roulette run nearly dc though. We both said things just completely stopped for a good minute or so before suddenly everything played through fast-forward and put us back to normal. We didn't have any other problems after that (was at the slime boss), but it was so bad I actually swore off doing Rabanasty last night out of fear half the raid would experience that. Saw plenty of people in the Quicksand and Tamamizu with the dc symbol too.

Whatever's going on, I hope it gets fixed soon/stops entirely. x.x;

EDIT: Oddly, I've only been seeing reports in from primarily Aether servers with a few others scattered across. Though even there, it seems spotty on who gets affected - both myself and that ninja did, but our BLM and CNJ were fine. Was really strange.

Standing in Quarrymill, I'm looking around at a sea of red circles. At least seven players all randomly lit up with the disconnecting symbol. Its getting a little ridiculous. I'm scared to even try to craft anything because if I dc in the middle of it I'm out a potential million gil profit.

Just bumping this bc I basically can't do any semi hard content with this awful lag spikes that happen randomly(usually when I am about to clear something).

Bump, Savage clears has truly been savage this week.

I agree that there is something wrong. Either with the servers or the connection. I have been getting some very nasty lag for the past 3 days consistently. Are we under attack again?

Its happening pretty bad with Excal, we actually had to stop raiding weeklies bc we couldn't stop lagging out and O3s isn't forgiving enough.

Lag is so bad now can't even run a dungeon. Use skills they never activate you just stand there doing nothing when enemies keep attacking you. Unless they fix these problems fast. Can see game loosing a lot population fast from it leaving and going to another online game.

I've been having so many issues with dc and lag the last two days. I even pay for a WTFast and I am so pissed off because raiding has been undoable because of these issues. OS1 and OS2 is no problem but OS3.. eck...

This is extremely frustrating and I am over it. Fix this game now please. This is completely unacceptable. I already pay for a service to help me stay connected to your game, and now not even that is working.

This older post below drives the point home. Anyone going through that NTT NY hop, ae-5.r24.nycmny01.us.bb.gin.ntt.net, is going to have a bad time (that's 22% packet loss showing up on ae-5.r24.nycmny01.us.bb.gin.ntt.net. The next 2 hops show it is getting as high as 44%):

I wasn't getting d/c at all but noticed others around me with the d/c symbol, then people disappearing as they dropped. People would complain in chat but it didn't start affecting me until today. It's been pretty frequent. When OP says it's unplayable, it can be depending on what you're doing. Short dungeons and gathering would probably be fine, questing here and there also fine. But for something as dedicated schedulewise such as raiding, I could definitely see that ending the night, especially if it is affecting more than one person on the raid team.

Yeah this has been going on for a couple of days and honestly there may be some connection to the ISPs, but there are not completely at fault here. As an EU player playing on the NA data centre, I can't see how my ISP would be connected to all the other NA players (just the data centre). I can confirm however that when I've played my alt on an EU centre recently, there was no problems at all.

Kinda feels a bit like SB early access all over again.

I haven't experienced this at all. Only time I was D/Ced was fighting an S-rank mob shortly after Stormblood came out or fighting Ixion sometimes.

Past few months DDoS attacks have been rotating ISP providers. It happens to other games not just FFXIV. However, If you are having D/C issues it could just be your ISP as well. Example: Mine finally updated my speed, and I kept getting disconnects from my internet entirely for a couple weeks. It has now since stabilized.

In regards to your comment about last night, everyone was hit because the ISP that leads to the servers was hit and hit hard throughout the day with a DDoS.

The game is far from unplayable. But these attacks are causing problems not just here, but everywhere.

Outside of 1 or 2 days here and there, the "unplayable" gameplay is definitely on your end if you're having issues for well over a month. DDoS attacks can only be mitigated to an extent, so SE can only do so much when it comes to this. That's just how it is. You might want to have a talk to your ISP and have a tech come out to check your lines if this is a common occurrence for you.

As Silverlunarfix stated, this has been effecting more than just ffxiv and SE. WoW used to get ddos'd quite a lot back in the day. Still does from time to time. Just have to wait it out mostly.

Also, SE is aware and does take note of it.

I dont believe people understand whats being said here.


While doing savage and extreme primals for the last month or so I am unable to stay connected to the game, or play without severe packet loss.


In extreme primals and savage. This is where my issues are most noticeable. I also experience issues with packet loss during crafting or gathering.

So yes the game is unplayable. I cannot play a game that relies on crafting procs, or you lose materials when you craft, or required high damage output, and reflex reaction times when i'm getting packet loss (loss of procs, while crafting, inability to perform combos due to packet loss etc etc) or flat out getting disconnected etc.


This has been ongoing for 1-2 months, and getting worse as i said with each day. I have been calling comcast over and over for 1.5 years, and now i'm starting to seriously consider that its XIV. I ping wikihow.com and never have packet loss but when i ping XIV, its always severe.


Last nights issue was just icing on the full triple layered cake. So again, yes the game is becoming unplayable for me.

If youre not aware, a game is something youre supposed to enjoy, and if over 50% of the time I cannot participate in the content or activities I want to participate in due to connection issues then yes its not fun anymore. No point in playing if its not fun. I'm glad the other two people are not experiencing any issues, and maybe the problem can be resolved, hence why i'm here expressing my concern.

Also note, I pretty much never have any issues with Final Fantasy XI. So no its not me and yes it is just this game.

So I'm seeing an issue already.

I would contact your provider again. Possibly check your DNS where its being routed through.

Considering I am on Spectrum and the biggest issue I've had was last night since I route to Comcast on my way to FFXIV servers.....The issue is not server based.

Again, talk to your ISP and have them take a look and check your lines if necessary. If every game besides FFXIV is working fine then more than likely your routing to the server is bad. So again, talk to your ISP.

Except in this case it has everything to do with the ISP's. You can have stable internet to one site, and have it be completely borked to another site. The internet isn't just a thing that works or doesn't work, there are a lot of connection points that can fail along the pathways to different servers that control web traffic, streaming, and game services.

If it was the FFXIV servers, LITERALLY EVERYONE would be having issues.
