I know this has been brought up before but this is getting more and more frustrating as time goes on. I am sick of having to share glamour between Black Mage, Red Mage, and Summoner because I have to share gear. I am sick of having to share glamour between White Mage, Scholar, and Astrologian because they have to share gear. I'm tired of ALL crafters looking the same because they all share 1 set of top end gear. In most other MMOs they have a more robust cosmetic system and they are much older games than Final Fantasy XIV. So I see no reason why Final Fantasy XIV cannot adapt their cosmetic system as well.
Either way, there are several ways that having unique glamour could be accomplished.
1. Save glamour appearances per gear set, not on the actual equipment itself. Gear sets already save what glamour, dye color, melds, etc each piece of gear has so the information is already being stored. Store it separately from the actual gear stat information though. This would be more like Lord of the Rings Online version of their cosmetic system I suppose. In that game you had up to 7 unique gear sets where you can save armor for appearance, and freely switch between them at any time regardless of what equipment you put on. The 8th set was "armor" so you can go back to the appearance of the normal equipment you have on without the glamour affecting it.
What I am suggesting isn't quite as extensive as that (though it would be nice). What I am suggesting is that the appearance of each saved gear set be unique to that gear set. If I want to wear the same armor on Black Mage but have different glamour appearances, I should be able to save the appearance to each gear set separately.
Example:
I have ilvl 310 tome gear. I decided I want to use Black Mage AF3 so I glamour all pieces of gear with Black Mage AF3. I save it gear set 1. I decide that I want to look like Elsa some times so maybe I glamour my Gown of Eternal Devotion and color it metallic sky blue. I save that to gear set 2. Now at any time, I can swap between gear set 1 for Black Mage AF, or gear set 2 for Frozen shenanigans. They are the same gear, but the appearance is saved separately between the two gear sets. This allows you to have multiple appearances for the same job, or unique appearances for different jobs that share the same gear. So rather than storing the appearance on each piece of gear, it will just be stored in the gear set. Gear sets have that information stored already because you get a warning when you change your glamour but don't save the gear set again. So this should be able to be done.
I think that is feasible and can be done. But if not:
2. A more temporary and easy solution would be to allow us to purchase "replica" versions of tomestone gear. The only requirement is we already have to have one of that item in possession. Since tome gear is "unique" and we cannot have more than one (I assume to prevent accidentally wasting tomes on additional pieces?), giving us a vendor who sells replicas for gil (with the exact same stats) to use as glamour fodder would be nice. Yes this would suck for inventory, but at least it's SOMETHING to allow us to have unique appearances on our jobs.
Again, stressing you must have already purchased this gear with tomes first in order to buy a "replica" version with gil. I mean you already own it and worked for the tomes to acquire it, so why would it matter? Since they would share different names, you would of course be able to have a replica and normal version in your inventory. And make the replica versions not "unique" so you can get 2 if you wish for all 3 jobs of your role. And also, this gear would be untradable, unable to be converted or desynthed. Literally just glamour fodder. Not an ideal solution, but definitely one that should be fast and easy to implement.
A little more complicated approach to that same idea would be for the NPC to just "duplicate" the piece of gear you wish so that it comes with the same melds already. Rather than having a huge list of replica tome gear to purchase, the NPC could just give options on what you would like to duplicate. Example Dialogue:
"Please choose the piece of armor you would like me to replicate:
- Head
- Chest
- Hands
- Legs
- Feet"
When you make your selection:
"The *insert name of piece of gear* will be replicated and all melds will be copied. Are you sure you would like to obtain a Replica *insert name of piece of gear* for 25,000 gil?" (or any random price of course)
3. Relic Armor. This would be similar to relic weapons we have now, and give us both another option for gearing as well as unique job specific glamour. It would of course be an alternative set of gear to upgrade just like normal relic weapons, where they would be on par with tome/raid gear and take an investment. This would provide more horizontal progression as well because we get a 3rd gear set option to choose from as far as stats are concerned. Since it would be no better than tome/savage/rage gear, it would be optional just like relic weapons were.
Of course, glamour log would be nice so we can unlock a glamour permanently and be able to toss the gear if we like such as it is in Guild Wars 2. But that is neither here or there. I'm not worried about the glamour log right now. I AM worried about being able to have unique appearances for my jobs of the same role. I want to look like a Red Mage when I'm on my Red Mage, while being able to look like a Black Mage while on my Black Mage instead of being stuck with the base gear appearance for one or the either.
SE please make this happen.
Also as another side note, please allow us to save different hair styles with gear sets as well. Some hair styles look really good with hats, and some look terrible with hats. Instead of having to run to the aesthetician every time I change jobs, it would be nice if I could just save different hair styles with gear sets instead. Longer hair style with a hat for Bard or Red Mage, braided ponytail for White Mage or Paladin who I do not use a hat for. Etc.
P.S. - Please allow us to store ALL versions of Artifact armor and Artifact/Relic weapons in the Armoire. It only stores the original AF1 and doesn't really hold much except for a few seasonal or achievement items. As someone who likes to collect all AF for all jobs, my inventory is really hurting. This should all be able to be stored. Plus, Armoire storage is not something that has to be recalled every zone change like inventory expansion. It should only have to be recalled when we access the Armoire (which is not often) so I don't see why not.
