Has anyone ever told you how to do your job in a negative way?

Now I\\'m not trying to start any bs in the forums, it\\'s just a question. Sometimes we get friendly people trying to help and give tips on how to make your class easier. And sometimes we get the jerks that do things differently from you and have to criticize you on your performance and start an unnecessary argument. I\\'m putting this in the tank forum because i was recently tanking Kugane castle. My gear is decent (mostly ilvl 310 gear. Haven\\'t gotten to new stuff yet.) And one of the dps kept criticizing me on the way i do things, pulling rotation ect. I obviously ignored him the entire run and got 2 commendations at the end from the heals and other dps I\\'m assuming. I don\\'t know if he was trolling or just being plain rude, but has anyone ever told you how to play your class in a negative way despite the fact you know what you\\'re doing?

Not personally no. Quite frankly, I could care less if people are mean or not so long as they are correct in everything they say to another player.

I'm usualyl open to criticisms because I know I'm not optimized in the way I tank. I'm not always trying to go into Sword Oath for that DPS, and I'm not always versed with the encounter that I can time my cooldowns with my eyes closed. I pay more attention to positioning, to providing melee DPS with a stable mob formation, and providing ranged and magic DPS with a tight mob formation.

Personally since I play on the JP data center, I've never got any negative remarks, although I know I have definite room for improvement on my tanking dps; which, by the way, is one of the main reasons I main DPS now and only use my tank when friends need it, seeing how I'm not a properly performing tank in the FFXIV world. If I'm gonna be worried about my dps all the time, I might as well do it right and play a DPS job.

This is a problem with the mobile site, likely associated with escape characters.

The ' gets replaced with \\' on the mobile version of the site when asked to edit your message when the char limit has been exceeded.

Sort of confused here, are you saying that you care a little if people are mean, but if the the information they have is correct you are okay with them being mean? Even though on some level it bothers you?

If the delivery prevents you from taking in good advice, that's even more messed up. You have to be able to separate the good from the bad, ignore the vitriol and take the bits of information that make sense.

That's actually fairly normal behavior. You have to get conditioned to 'not' let the delivery affect you and there are communication courses that exist precisely to develop that skill, because it can be a very useful one if you're working in a rough environment like the military.

Some people will have that skill naturally, but most won't.
Or differently put, if you follow the four-side model of communication, the receiver receives a strong, negative message on the relationship layer that speaks so loud the receiver can't hear the matter level the sender stressed over it. And with that, the appeal layer is unlikely to achieve results.
