Wards aren't dead at all. I see my neighbours all the time and SE never intended for housing to be for everybody anyway. So great the overwhelming majority of players will never have houses because the hamster wheel servers can't handle it. Not to mention, the wards are dead. I have now been on two large servers (Balmung and Cactuar) and I saw my neighhours only a handful times. You may like the wards aesthetic, but I'd much prefer a server that doesn't screw over 90% of players.
Their servers do suck though. That I can agree on.

Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a poor design choice to anger 90% of the playerbase that wants housing because there’s only enough for 10%. The idea of exclusivity is a ridiculous one anyways. In truth, Housing was initially designed just for Free Companies; personal housing wasn’t added until later when players complained about said FC exclusivity. And, again, the idea of exclusivity is a ridiculous one anyways.
And yes, the wards are very dead. I have had a small FC house for a little over half a year in the Lavender Beds on Cactuar—I see one person maybe once a month from the FC across the way from my house (that, despite being a mansion, seems to be relatively inactive—or at least their plot is pretty dead). And they never speak to me. Not a very “community feeling” at all. I’m standing in Shirogane right now, and there is nobody around but the person I share a house with. Because we’re decorating said house.
I’m also sure the developers did not intend for one individual to have more than one house, nor for two to own nearly an entire Ward either.

I owned a small house on Balmung, the most popular server in the game by a considerable mile, yet only saw my neighbours on rare occasions. Regardless, it's a terrible design philosophy when 90% of your playerbase is frustrated-- some on the verge of tears after they took time away from work or felt responsible to get a FC house only to get locked into a 1,000 person queue. No other MMO has struggled with housing like FFXIV. It's an embarrassment the dev should be utterly ashamed of.
Design flaw. Paying the same sub fee to not have access to the same content is wrong.
People like to compare this to raiding which is hilarious. You're not barred from high tier content. It always there for you to zone into and work on and complete. With housing? Nope. Nada. Can't do. Deal with it.

Yep the wards are largely dead. So are the FC houses I've visited on my server. I finally saw a second player in my ward after being there a year. I was at the MB, waved to them and didn't get any type of response even though they showed online. So great the overwhelming majority of players will never have houses because the hamster wheel servers can't handle it. Not to mention, the wards are dead. I have now been on two large servers (Balmung and Cactuar) and I saw my neighhours only a handful times. I do like wards and I don't consider them dead, especially at the marketboard I frequent. Maybe it's just the spot you're at? Idk. I do see more people at my beach medium house in mist than I do with my hillside personal, so maybe it's the location.
Man, if SE would just want it to be available to everyone from the get-go we wouldn't have this problem. They want it to be exclusive and I guess I'm part of that exclusive group but it really shouldn't be the way it is.
I don't see them ever doing instanced warding. I think the main source of their problems are their potato servers. If they fixed that they could add sooo many more wards.
Another thing they should do is have houses only be available an hour after the servers pop up to avoid things like the Shirogane Hunger Games.
Problem with this.Picture everyone on your server in Kugane at the ather or boat dock standing for a hour ...there servers gonna crash...the lochs on my dead server was crashing at like 200 people in it hense instancing was put in.
It have to be more then a hour , if not mistaken some were in q for longer then a hour ..its gonna be a cluster *&%^ no matter how they release them
But if they put in a random timer on plot for when they go up for sale after you release a proerty no houses would be bought by flippers..If they can't quarantine the buyer the house no one will buy...and the KEY to this is to not mention it till the patch notes that night...that way flippers aren't making fc in advance...then the night of the patch put that crap in big bold letters top of the patch notes

yup that doesn't work. better to strain the log-in server than to strain Kugane.
i realise this is /s. but my point is you think people are hot after the loggin mess ...wait till its 2 mins till plots open and kugane crashes and people stuck again in a loggin loop added on that "you already loggin in the game please wait" bs message you get when your character hasnt left the server
